diahrrea

Will you, please, explain me the followiing: when you eat and get diahrrea right away, the food just basically is not digested and is flushed out of your system? What I want to khow is does that mean that you will need to eat some more food for the reason that the food you eaten has left your body undigested? I am confused. What is the whole thing with that issue? Do i eat no-carb foods in this case...?
Thank you very much!

Well, first off, I would consder what I had eaten. Was it something with sugar alcohols in it or anything that might have the laxative effect and eliminate that item from my diet or else eat it very sparingly.

Myself, I tend to eat protein when I'm having diarreah and I eat cheese. Rumor has it that cheese will plug you up (Grin) but I don't know. I also drink a regular coke or sprite with sugar in it because I feel so weak and that helps. I'm not recommending you do that if you are in ketosis, because I am sure it will knock you back out of it.

Also, if you eat too many nuts or sunflower kernels, they can give you diarreah.

If you can't figure out anything specific that is giving you this, then I would check with my doctor as it could be irritable bowel syndrome or something similar.

I do hope you figure it out.

i have the same problem, Zheka (hehe, i like how our names are kinda similar)... as soon as i've finished eating something, i'm running to the bathroom with awful diarrhea (not just normal diarrhea but the pure liquid kind). sorry for the TMI. :/

i restarted atkins 6 days ago and have had diarrhea after everything i eat for the past 6 days... not sure what is causing this. i'm not eating anything "processed" and i haven't even had that many veggies in the past 6 days. from what i've heard over and over again, constipation is a fairly common occurrence while on atkins so it baffles me why i've had diarrhea since starting again... shouldn't it be the other way around?

also, as far as the cheese goes, i've been eating plenty of cheese hoping that it would help stop the diarrhea, but it's not helping.

Are either of you taking vitamins? Some vitamins will do that.

I eat more nuts while I locarb. I use almond flour, snack on almonds, etc. I always get diarreha from any nuts. I wonder if its the oil in nuts?

My doc said this was due to too much water in the bowel and taking soluble fiber would soak up the excess and even things out. The bottle scared me, because it said soluble fiber, a natural laxative. But it wasn't. What it does is even things out. It bulks. If there is too little water, it pushes things through, and if there is too much, it absorbs it and turns it into gel. It does work for me when I get attacks. I also use Immodium AD if I am having a belly problem day and need to go somewhere. Note: INSOLUBLE fiber does just the opposite. It'll make you run like an overused faucet.

Check out the website www.scdiet.org that deals with chronic diarrhea and foods to avoid if you have this problem. My doctor handed me this book when I went to her. Foods are listed as acceptable and unacceptable.

Some foods in our system do not absorb well
Or breakdown properly.

It could be an allergy, or enzyme missing.

My issue is lactose intolerance. Which is
common among several people, but mine
is due to heritidity. I am 1/2 Asian. I don't
have the enzyme to break down lactose.
Instead of throwing up I get gut severe
gut aches...

I found eating bananas to help. The potassium
helps asorb the access fluid left in my
intestines and returns everything to normal.

Vitamin C helps to, but I was told that if you
take any of these before you drink milk its
a waste of time because you aren't getting
any of the nutritional value.

I found for myself lactaid milk is the trick.
It doesn't taste different than regular milk
and I get my vitamins and I don't sick.

Are you taking mineral supplements?

When I added daily calcium/magnesium supplements, I got diahrrea. It was quite a while before I learned that magnesium (as in milk of magnesia) is a natural laxative. I cut back on the magnesium -- to one cal/mag and one plain calcium tablet -- and my problem was solved. Also, I need to stay away from prunes.

By the way, it's important to increase your water intake when you have diahrrea because so much extra water is lost.

Hope that helps!

Fiber~

The reason is you are not eating enough fiber- there is nothing in your system to "bind" things/ make them solid and absorb everything. Metamucil worked, and I have not ever had this issue since. In fact, even if I were not low carb I would still take metamucil every day now!!!

I have found that eating smaller meals helps. If I eat a large meal on an empty stomach I'm in trouble! I have to sometimes watch the amount of fat that I eat too. If I eat a high fat meal I am often running for the bathroom after. And salad can be very bad news for me.

I'm not sure what is causing it but iron pills and cheese are great ways to help reduce it.
