Feeling weak and shaky

I am on Induction and am definitely in Ketosis. But I feel all shaky and drained of energy. Is this normal? Sometimes I feel so bad I have to lay down. I am wondering about my blood sugar? Maybe it is dropping too low? Not really sure what ketosis means?

really there could be a few reasons for this.
I do that myself and have heart palpatations if I raise my carb count to a tolerable level ( for me) it goes away.
However for me I think it is hypoglycemia acting up a bit on me , on extream low carb mine just falls low and stays there its more than possible you could just be low on a nutrient

Thanks Arylin for the information. I am somewhat confused. Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar, right? What do you do when your's falls too low. I have never been told by a doctor that I have this, of course, I haven't had my blood checked in couple of years. But today, just a while ago, I had another episode. I was sitting here at work and noticed my left hand was tingling and I started feeling just really weak and weirded out. I got up to go to the bathroom and I swear I thought I was going to faint. I ate an orange. I know fruit is not on induction but I felt I had to try something. This morning I had an Atkins Morning Start Trail Mix bar, then for lunch I had deli roast, turkey, and a slice of provolone wrapped with cucumber and mayo. Last night for dinner I had New York Strip with brocoli. I know I am eating enough, I don't think it's that. It may have to do with Ketosis because when I checked it with the strip this morning it was deep purple. After eating the orange, and going outside to get some fresh air, I feel better now. I am just confused, I do not like to feel this way. It was really scary. Any advice?

have you had your thyroid checked?? If you have thryroid problems you should never eat fewer than 30 carbs

It also sounds to me like a low blood sugar.

You can get a glucose monitor for less than $20 at teh pharmacy. It may be able to help you .

You should also read Dr Atkins book. It explains everything you need to know about ketosis

I was DX'd with reactive hypoglycemia many years ago. When I first started Atkins, I had these episodes during induction. Every time I'd start feeling strange, I would eat a protein snack. I even bought a dehydrator to make my own jerky.

It took several months, but things finally stabilized and I very rarely get these symptoms anymore.

You should definitely get a check-up, though. These symptoms can also be caused by other things. There is no way to make a diagnosis without tests.

Another thought: are you sure you're just not going through Induction Flu? How long have you been doing the first phase? Ketosis means that you are burning fat for fuel and not carbs. Are you sure your body has switched over?

I have hypoglycemia. The dr explained to me that my blood sugar goes up and down too fast unless I'm eating food with a low glycemic index.

The way you're feeling usually means you've waited too long to eat. You should eat something every 2 or 3 hours, in my case a protein/fat item usually works wonders....like cheese or meat.

My mom used to say I was "getting green in the gills" and made sure I had something to eat quickly.

I'm not supposed to have any sugar and very little starches. Atkins is working great for me!

(too bad I was too stupid to fix my eating habits 20 years ago!)

Hope you get to feeling better!

Pam
