Twitching??
Sometimes, when I am losing weight, I feel a twitching in my limbs and elsewhere. I always thought it was the fat burning off, but most people I've talked to have never experienced it.
After chatting with some folks on this board, I'm wondering if it's not just diet related. Is this something I should be concerned about, or can you really feel fat burning off? |

That feeling sounds familiar to me...always hard to describe to other people!
It sometimes feels like my knees are knocking when they are perfectly still, or other weird little twitchy-nervy things in my arms or legs. Some medications I've been on make them happen more, like phenergan (for nausea) and recently when I was on Effexor. However, mine have gotten better since I've been on Atkins and off the Effexor. I was beginning to think I was the only one! |

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it can be a sign of mild potassium deficiency.

Now that makes sense, because it usually happens when the pounds are flying off, or when I've had a very hard workout. I hope the Atkins Nutritionist responds so I will know what to do.
I'm a little disappointed that it's not fat burning though! |

You may have a condition know as Benign Fasciculation Syndrome. I had a major flare-up of it when I started Atkins, my muscles started twitching again and I had strong hypnic jerks (body jerks when I am falling asleep). Magnesium supplement helped me a lot, now I feel better, but the twitches are still there.

It's not likely this is related to a deficiency, if you are eating properly and taking a multivitamin to supplement your diet, you wouldn't be deficient in any micronutrients. It isn't the fat burning off either, would be nice if we could actually feel this happening to track progress, but the body doesn't work like that! I haven't heard of the syndrome mentioned but I wouldn't be concerned with that either. If you are aware that you have an underlying condition, any weight loss (not just following a carb controlled approach) may cause flare-ups, but it would not cause the condition to occur, only may make it worse if it is already there. My suggestion would be to make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I wouldn't be too concerned. Congrats on your weight loss!
