Carbs vs Net Carbs

Can someone tell me how to calculate net carbs?
Is this okay on induction?

is it carbs minus fiber minus sugar alcohol?

From what I see, there are three camps on the carb deduction issue. I'm using a mythical food to illustrate, lets say it has 10 carbs, 3 which are fiber and 4 which are sugar alcohol.

1. People who do not calculate net carbs, but count all carbs as the same. (count mythical food as 10 carbs)

2. People who deduct for fiber but not sugar alcohol (count mythical food as 10-3=7 net carbs)

3. People who deduct for fiber and sugar alcohol. (count 10-3-4=3 net carbs)

Which camp you fall into is a personal choice, based on experience and how your body reacts to different things. I would advise you to stay away from sugar alcohols during induction, though.

Net Carbs refers to whole foods and recipes. It is total carbs minus fiber. In terms of products, fiber and ingredients that don't impact blood sugar are subtracted, but this isn't always accurate since there are ingredient-nutrient interactions that effect determing how many carbs will influence blood sugar. That is where the Net Atkins Count comes in. You can learn more about Net Carbs and Net Atkins Count by viewing a presentation on the Atkins website
