Induction menu?

I'm curious as to why the 2005 two week induction meal plan includes so many low carb breads, pancakes, even hot cereal with Hood carb countdown milk? I didnt think these items were for induction purposes.

Well I wont comment on what I *think* because it's an opinion. But I do believe Induction should be as clean as possible. No Frankfoods, just meats, cheeses, veggies, eggs....

I know People aren't going to understand. Ok so once in awhile is fine to have a slice of bread.... still not on INDUCTION!!! I am a firm believer in the old Atkins way..... 72 and 92 versions.

I'll leave it at that. Everything else I want to type... well ...

I know - I was reading this on the website just now and I was shocked by it.

The closer to Atkins '72 that I can stay the better I do.

Wow, shocking. I can imagine how expensive that plan could get. I wonder if part is to show "you can still have your breads and sweets on Atkins, you won't be deprived". Eating faux carb products isn't going to help you break the habit in the same way that low fat products/diets are often counter productive.

just my 2 cents..

I am sure it is.... they want to make it easier on people, but People who are addicted to carbs are not doing themselves any favors by subbing high carby items for LC ones. They need to change eating habits and to do that they need a clean induction with Meats, veggies, eggs, cheese. Not Frankenfoods. that defeats the purpose!

Ditto for me too Diana! I really don't know how new 'atkins' followers will get over their sugar cravings if they are allowed frankenfoods during the induction phase? I think the occasional LC shake would be fine, but definately NOT bread, cereal or LC sweets......

Frankenfoods are food not from a natural sorce...so things in a box, or plastic..like low-carb tortillas, bread, pasta, s/f candies..etc

and never be afraid to ask! You only stop growing when you stop asking

I agree that you do need to eat as clean as it gets during induction but how do I or we get our hands on the "older" versions of Atkins? I'm almost to goal but need a good kick in the behind. Please help

p.s. don't know if I'm posting properly. Figuring this site out is my next step cause I couldn't do it without you guys. You're the best!

That's great if you are able to eat 'clean'. Whole foods are central to the Atkins Nutritional Approach. But many people are turned off by a controlled carb approach to eating simply because they think that there isn't enough variety and get bored of eating the same things, also that they don't have time to prepare low carb meals. That's where controlled carb products come in. They offer variety into meal planning, as long as they are used properly and not abused. That is the key thing to remember, that products have to be incorporated into meal planning along with whole foods and that low carb eating is not about eating low carb products. Most products can be included on Induction as long as they are used properly and are not interfering with weight loss. "Older" versions of Atkins do not include products because there were no controlled carb products available then. Dr. Atkins formed Complementary Formulations in 1989 (later became Atkins Nutritionals) because he dreamed of having his favorite foods in low carb versions (especially ice cream) that he could include into meal planning.

THis is the thing, I am watching a lot of Newbies starting out on Shakes, bars, muffins, etc for Breakfast. Lunch LC pizzas atkins ones or just Low Carb meals (frozen) Dinner- stuff like about with bars, ice cream and cookies for dinner.

What did they learn?

HOW DO WE GET THEM TO LEARN TO EAT RIGHT? Sometimes I think they newer books are more geared towards making a $1. Makes me sad. It's like Atkins or Low carbing in general has turned into Weight watchers, every where you look they are marking restruants, frozen foods, cooking utensils... etc

This is why I like the '72 version better.... You concentrate on NATURALS.

Try Amazon. com. You can type in the name of the book and they will come up with new and used ones. I find lots of good deals there. I just typed in 1972 Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution and it came up with 300 entries.

I bought my copy at my local CVS drugstore. I have seen them at walmart, and I think it was in a display at Books a million. They are being reprinted.

I have to agree with everyone here. Doing not only a clean induction but a fairly clean OWL is key. Convience foods are just what it says..convient BUT it is starting to sound like other weight loss chains touting their foods. I find it sad...those are the exact things that have caused me in the past to fall off the wagon because before I know it my cravings for the HC stuff starts up again and that 'just one bite' won't hurt me comes into play.

This time doing induction (I am still on induction and will be for a while) I have avoided all those things other than an occassional shake (when I go out shopping and need something with me) or an Advantage bar (for the same reasons as above) but other than that NO low carb frankenfood in this house and this time it is working MUCH better and I haven't fallen off that wagon because the cravings for these foods are not there.

I think some of the convience foods set up newbies, not all, but many for failure and thus it comes back as "tried Atkins but it didn't work for me" discounting everything that has worked for others.

Just my opinion but eating Low carb doesn't include those things for me at this point in my life and probably never will. This is a life style change and while it may take a little bit more effort with cooking I am healthier than I have been a long long time.
