College and Dorm rooms??! Help!!

Hey there!!

I know this topic has probably been posted about 10 million times but I have searched and search and only found a few replies to it. At any rate, I am re-inducting, got off Atkins...don't know why...I feel like crap and want to be healthy and thin again. I weight 205 and want to weight about 135 realistically. I live in the dorms and I am trying so hard to be crative with what I am allowed to have, ie. a microwave! lol I hate having the Atkins bars and shakes for lunch since I know they stall you, but I can't really have eggs and bacon or something. Unless you all have great ideas for me. I am able to have some protein and salad for lunch and dinner at the cafe, which is good. I have some ham, and cheese sticks in my fridge, but I am still kinda lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

The bars & shakes don't stall everyone. I use them frequently and still lose fine, so see if they cause a problem for you or not.

Can you eat breakfast in your cafeteria? If not, can you smuggle out food the night before (I used to do that all the time in college. ) Does your dorm have a communal lounge with a microwave? If so, there are some low-carb frozen dinners you could get. You could also try making tuna or chicken salad and keeping that in your fridge.

I think it's great you're doing this now. My "Freshman 15" got me up to over 220 lbs. but I didn't start this diet until after college.

hi sunshyne! i am 21 and lived in dorms for 2 years ... now i commute to school. but i totally understand how you feel and went through the same thing! i posted about this a month or so ago. a lot of these foods aren't OK for induction, but may be helpful when you move onto OWL or maintenance ... here are some ideas:

-nuts/almonds (i really like microwaving my almonds for like 45 seconds, they taste so much better! less nutrients, tho)
-sugar free swiss miss (a great snack if you aren't really hungry but just want something sweet. to add some variety, add some heavy cream and splenda to it, it tastes a lot less watery)
-sugar free jello (easy to make if you have a microwave and a fridge)
-sometimes i would get some protein bars (i love atkins peanut butter and chocolate ones!) that i really liked and cut them up into pieces and put them in plastic baggies the fridge. this helps portion control and when they are cold, preferably frozen, they take longer to eat.
-fruit! i often brought some cut up canteloupe or blueberries back to school with me or took some from the dining hall and kept it in my fridge. if the melon is out of season, keep a stash of splenda and sprinkle a little on top.
-string cheese!
-cottage cheese (if you like it!) i would sometimes mix this up with some splenda and maybe some fruit.
-atkins muffins. you can make these at home (or wherever you have access to an oven) and freeze them/put them in the fridge. one batch yields about 12 and they make a great snack.
-get some different kinds of sodas and add a little bit of heavy cream to them for a snack. i sometimes added heavy cream to diet orange soda for a creamsicle or to diet root beer for a rootbeer floa-like drink. plus, the cream has fat which will help you feel like you ate something
-deli meats. keep some cheese slices in the fridge too and wrap the cheese up with the meat occasionally for a snack.
-bring your own salad dressing. i got REALLY sick of dining hall salad dressings and starting taking my own bottle with me lol.
-your dining hall should have eggs!
-smuggle out some veggies from the dining hall and get some ranch dressing and eat that.
-tuna pouches

i will keep thinking and post again if i come up with any more ideas! feel free to PM me if you need any college support because i have totally been there and know it can be hard and frustrating! good luck!
