S/F Jello with aspartme question
Im lost does atkins not want you to eat aspartme? If so why is eating S/f jello permitted and alot of people drink diet pop (not diet rite) and still loose? Also I am re-inducting for the second time....i have a major sweet tooth and usually make whipping cream and splenda for a dessert.....Although i dont eat alot of splenda in a day....could that contribute to me still wanting something sweet when i enter the owl phase?

Dr. Atkins saw that aspartame may have caused some of his patients to stall. There was not enough research done on aspartame at that time, so he had to go by his own clinical observations. Even though this was based on anecdotal reports and not on science, that's what he had to go on at the time. But now, there has been so much research done on aspartame and it does not support that aspartame causes stalls. The guidelines have been liberalized to allow aspartame, but like everything else, in moderation. It is true that individuals may experience stalls on a case by case basis, and what they choose to include into meal planning may be affected.
But what you describe, having a major sweet tooth and worrying if that could trigger cravings, is a totally different situation. If you think it will trigger cravings even if you are only having a small amount, it would be a good idea to eliminate it. |

johnandchicken, I decided awhile back to eliminate all artificial sweeteners as well as sugar alcohols and also eliminated Splenda and Stevia (Stevia was too sweet for me anyway) The moment I eliminated all these from what I was eating was the moment my sugar cravings literally disappeared. I no longer had the after-meal munchies nor did I want something 'sweet' after a meal...(and that was a very rare thing)...even now, it is very rare for me to crave any type of sweet treat...now when TOM comes around, sometimes I'll want something a little on the sweet side. So I enjoy a sweet potato instead...I think the only thing I eat now that does have Splenda in it is the Yoplait Ultra Yogurt, but I haven't had that in about 2 weeks, because I just haven't been wanting anything 'sweet'...

Any without aspartame?
Is there any sugar free or low carb Jello or Jello like stuff that doesn't have aspartame? My wife can't have aspartame at all... makes her really sick but she likes jello. I haven't been able to find anything that is sugar free that doesn't have aspartame. Would be nice if the Jello company would switch to Splenda.

Sugar free jello
There is also Hunt's Snack Pack Sugar Free Gel Snacks that have no sugar, no aspartame, and are sweetened w/ sucralose. I found them at Super Wal-Mart.

I've seen recipes for sf jello made with unflavored gelatin, unsweetened kool-aid and splenda...I think it is on LindaSue's site.

SPLENDA TEST
I'm going to post this also in a new thread so that It's noticed, but think it's very appropriate for this board's subject as well.
I've written this elsewhere months ago in the past, but now have conslusive proof about Splenda. Dr Bernstein says to test any hidden sugars in foods, do a keto-DIAstix ORAL test by putting a little of the food in question into your mouth, chew it or just mix it with your saliva and apply it directly from your mouth onto the Dia-stix' swab. I hadn't gotten around to it before but finally, in the last month cracked down and did some direct oral testing of several things in the house. Everything I tested that I've been eating came out sugar negative..... EXCEPT SPLENDA! Not only did it show sugar, it jumped immediately to the LAST DARKEST 2000 patch on the stix and my eyes popped right out, so I did it again with a new strip! Same thing. Test it yourself. Splenda contains Maltodextrin and Dextrose which constitutes 96% of the packet's contents, with only a mere 4% actual sucralose [benign sweetner] which reacts as sugar and IS 96% sugar to the system. He was RIGHT. He says do NOT use any powder / packet / granulated sugar substitutes of ANY brand because those are filled with the maltodextrin or dextrose .....or BOTH, as Splenda is. The ONLY packet / powdered form that isn't is Stevia. Only use tablets or liquid of the others, which I immediately started doing long ago the moment I read his book and my brand new still sealed box of 2000 splenda envelopes are still sitting here untouched for many months since I immediately switched to saccharin tablets, and also make my own liquid, melting those in water for cooking..... plus all my boxes of SF Jello that I will not touch and haven't, either. He also says in his Diabetes Solution book, that ALL powdered preparations, including Jell-o brand sugar free jello has maltodextrin in them [and probably all others]... S/F soft drinks, instant powdered soup broths, instant powdered sugar free cocoas, and everything else in powdered form. Only in Canada and maybe elsewhere other than the US, does "Jell-o" brand Jello come without the maltodextrin, but not here.... the only Jello that does, is prepared and sold in the little cups already mixed.... but not the boxes of envelopes. The proof is right there on the stix test for Splenda so there's no longer any question about it, and that goes for all other powdered foods with those fillers as well. |
