P E R F E C T C H O L E S T E R O L ! ! !

Just came from my doctor's office and the nurse practitioner told me this time I had "perfect cholesterol." She read it all to me and I foget the numbers, but she was so excited that it had gone from 246 to perfect and my blood pressure was perfect too. She couldn't believe I did it with diet.

I told her the only thing I did different from regular Atkins is (well really something Atkins recommends for people with cholesterol problems in his books) is I started eating a lot of fish and making sure I was getting my omega 3's plus the glucose monitor is helping me keep my blood sugar down because I found out it makes a difference not just what I eat, but what I eat at what time of day how often I eat and how much I eat at each setting.

And one other thing I did. I cut out completely any possible possibility of transfats. Even stopped going to my favorite hot wings place and eating their hot wings because they are deep fried before they roll them in the red hot sauce.

Anyway I told her Barry Sears says omega 3 or fish oil added on a regular basis to the diet will improve your cholesterol and that I read Dr. Richard Bernstein's book and have not "yet" been able to keep my blood sugar as low as he recommends in the 80s and low 90's but I am able to stay under 105 most of the time and even during the holidays when I decided to just maintain and not try to lose weight and wasn't being that careful kept it below 120 always.

I told her it shot up to 150 once when I hadn't even eaten (not fair!) because I had the flu but I have heard that when sick that happens so I just didn't eat anything until my blood sugar went back down which wasn't hard because I felt too sick to my stomach to eat anyway at which point I was almost completely over the flu.

She couldn't believe I did it with diet alone. She was bouncing up in down in her chair she was so happy.

Perfect. Hoooray for omega 3's. I also thanked her profusely for prescribing the glucose monitor and test strips as that has helped so much. It has been so educational to find out that even on the Atkins diet, what time of day I eat what little healthy carbs I do eat and how much and all that can affect my blood sugar. I told her that I'm sure everyone is different and I think people should be issued glucose monitors and test strips at birth!

And I'm only exaggerating slightly. Love this website by the way!

P.S.

By the way, I absolutely overdosed on eggs and my cholestrol improved dramatically!

So much for the eggs cause high cholesterol myth.

Yea, Dr. Atkins said that the lecithin in eggs keeps them from causing high cholesterol plus eating foods low in cholesterol doesn't make that much difference cuz the body produces cholesterol or something.

Plus I have been slathering (that's the word Dr. Atkins used in one of his books) butter on pork rinds.

Sometimes I just eat cheddar cheese on pork rinds (using the pork rinds as kind of crackers).

To say I have been eating a diet high in fat would be an understatement.

Yum, yum. I love cheese omelettes with pork rinds for toast.
