Low carb and Serotonin

I understand that we need carbs to help our brain produce Seronotin and Beta Endorfin... So if we do LC for a long time, will we be lacking of both Serotonin and Beta Endorfin?

Thanks

I believe as you work up the ladder and add Healthy carbs you do release more Serotin (sp) This is why they say people who try to stay at real low Carbs end up Bingeing or cheating.

You do not NEED carbs to produce serotonin.
Carbs are only one way to produce it, there are many, many other more acceptable ways.

You do not need to worry about not having enough of these neurotransmitters. Carbohydrates are not the only way to make them. Carbohydrate-rich meals often increase serotonin levels. However, serotonin's properties may have varying effects in different people. Some people may experience a temporary lift in mood after a carbohydrate-rich meal, while others may become relaxed or sleepy. Certain foods that increase serotonin levels aren't the healthiest choices either. Complex carbohydrates (rice, potato, pasta) may increase serotonin levels, but not to the same extent as simple carbohydrates because the protein content of these foods might actually inhibit serotonin production.

Here's an article off the atkins website that may be helpful
