Protein stays consistent at about 30% of calories, carbs (5-25%)and fat (65-45%) fluctuate based on the phase you are in.When doing Atkins appropriately this is the ratio we have found to be true more often than not. This does not mean that the % does not change. This rule of thumb is primarily for those who track nutrients on fitday or other programs.

However, you do not want to eat too much protein. Excess protein can turn to glucose and will interfere with your body's ability to stay in fat burning metabolism mode.

The total grams of protein varies according to the individual, depending on what your energy needs are. Remember to eat when your hungry and stop when you are satisfied. Listen to your body to guide you to consume the amount of energy your body needs.

I was wondering if you could give us the breakdown of carbs, protein and fat in each of the Atkins phases? Your response is greatly appreciated...

Thank you,
Valerie

P.S. I posted a question about this before...but somehow it got removed from this site...not sure why

This will depend on the individual. If you start in Induction, carbs will be 5% of total calories, and the rate at which it increases depends on how long you stay in Induction, when you move to OWL, how long you stay in OWL, when you move to pre-maintenance, how long you stay in Pre-Maintenance, etc. As you increase your carbs, the percentage from fat will decrease naturally as you are listening to your body and eating in response to your body's energy needs.

The most important thing to focus on is whether you are eating enough total calories, whether you are losing pounds and inches, and whether you are feeling better and have more energy.
