Belle,

It varies by person and by specific SSRI. I have been on 4 (Elavil, Paxil,Wellbutrin, Effexor), and never noticed any kind of impact on my weight.

I've been on Effexor for 6 years and while I have gained weight, I have no doubt it is due to the icecream I consumed. I was also on Effexor the first time I LC'd to goal and the weight dropped very quickly. YMMV of course.

yes, many of them do -- espicially the older ones. (zoloft, paxil, prozac, etc) which one are you taking?

SSRIs can effect weight loss. In addition, common side effects of SSRIs, such as anxiety, sleeplessness, nervousness and headaches, actually create carbohydrate cravings. For example, about 10 percent of people on Prozac have appetite loss, but about a third experience increased appetite. Patients quickly start to lose weight when they stop these drugs.

Natural substitutes for SSRI drugs include the herbs St. John's wort and kava kava or inositol hexanicotinate, a B vitamin. Warning: Never stop antidepressants on your own—you need to taper off these drugs slowly—and that there can be interactions with alternative remedies. You must consult with your doctor before making any changes or additions.

You mention that you have cut down your portion sizes. Are you eating enough? Your meds can definitely cause you to stall, but so can not giving your body the fuel that it needs.

Yup I eating enough! still get hungry in the afternoon, I just eat a wee bit of cheese to tide me over till dinner

breakfast
20gms of cheese
1/2 boiled egg
coffee with 2 teaspoons of splenda

Lunch
2 cups mixed salad greens
1 boiled egg
2 mushrooms
3 small gerkins
10gms cheese

snack
30gms of cheese
1 tablespoon of fine mustard

dinner
1 large chicken thigh
3 mushrooms
3 asparagus spears
bit of salad

is this still to much?

Im on Citalopram marketed in NZ as Celapram have been for abt a year, I think I could possibly one of those resistant ppl should I try decreasing my carbs more? I eat between 20-25gm a day. Or should I up my exercise? I do abt 30mins a day
