2 Questions!
1. How can I explain, in less detail than books, that ketosis is ok and I'm not doing awful things to my body?
2.And how do I explain that my cholesterol will not sky rocket ? Hard to convince folks when I have a salad with cheese, eggs, bacon and steak on it! All knowledge in defense for this WOE. |

Ok for the first question, thats simple. Simpley explain it like this, keytosis is only the ridding your body of fat through your urine, so the more fat you eat and the less carbs, the body uses the fat, and any fat it needs to get rid of goes down the loo! Simple.
Secondy, the cholestarol thing, my step dad had high colestarol to the point where the dr said if he didn't go on a diet he would have a heart attack, he went onto atkins and within 5 months his cholestarol went down to an acceptable level. No one really understand why this happens, but it's something to do with flushing the fats out - plus there are good cholestarol and bad cholestarol, you're only incuding the good ones, which means that there is little risk of getting cholestarol that is harmful. The smiplest way of explaining it to people is that you are eating good fat, and your body is expelling it via energy release (normally provided by carbs) and then getting rid of the part it doesn't use in your urine. Hope that helps! Oh and don't lisetn to other people, the fact is, they haven't tried the diet for whatever reason....there is a very good section called "expelling the myths" on the atkins web site that deals with all of the myths that pup people off of going onto a LC diet, it makes for interesting reading! |

For question number one, you can explain that when someone is sleeping, they may be switching to fat burning metabolism if their carbohydrate stores in the body (called glycogen) are empty, and they too will be in ketosis. That is just how natural of a process it is. And if you have extra fat to lose, you can use this same process to get rid of the extra fat by limiting carbs so that your body will switch to fat burning metabolism.
For question two, you can explain that all studies that show that cholesterol rises after consumption of high fat food such as cheese, eggs, and bacon, where done in a mixed diet setting, where participants were consuming high carbs. There is no evidence to suggest that the same will be seen in a controlled carb setting. This is because, in the absence of carbohydrate, the fat from food will be burned for energy and not available to cause unfavorable effects on heart health or lipid levels. |
