Liver Disease and Atkins

Two weeks ago I was found to have liver damage and liver disease. THe doctors have been able to say what it is NOT at this point but are still searching for a cause.

My question is how does a lower carb way of eating effect the liver when there are already problems with the liver? Anything to watch or concerns?

Hi Kelley,

I do not have enough information about the liver damage and liver disease you have been diagnosed with to properly advise you, and it would be irresponsible to give guidance on a bulletin board, especially since I do not know your medical history or current meal planning. I would suggest discussing your concerns with your doctor. Be sure to provide detailed information about what your meal planning looks like and what supplements you are taking. There is a 'Liver' folder on the atkins website, located in the Science Behind Atkins sections if you would like to read up on the scientific literature.
