Question RE Meat/Egg Fast
In recent posts, I see where you advised not to go under 20 carbs on induction. With the meat and Egg fast, you only have about 5 carbs --- is this wrong?? I see where people are losing alot of weight doing this fast. And if it is ok -- how long of a span can you do the fast? I was considering it to kind of speed up my weight loss. I am staying on Induction until i lose alot of my weight.
Just curious. Thanks! |

Pookies..
I'm sure the An will chime in here..but the egg/meat fast is NOT Akins. It is something a low-carber came-up with for rapid loss. There is no study (to my knowledge) regarding this type of plan. IMHO...it's another quick fix for people not ready to change their woe for life. I've done every fad diet out there..and all it got me was 250+ Not untill I was ready to find a healthy balanced way to eat each day..for life, did I get the mind-set that got me to goal..and is keeping me here.

People will do the Egg/meat fast to get into Deep Ketosis and fast. Once you get into Ketosis then they Move to Induction and start working their way up the ladder...

Thank you, Lisa Rae for stressing that the meat/egg fast is not the Atkins Nutritional Approach. Dr. Atkins did give guidelines for a ‘fat fast’ but this is only appropriate for those who are truly metabolic resistant to force their body into ketosis so that after a week at most, they can transition to Induction. It is actually dangerous for those who are not metabolically resistant. Any ‘fast’ is a ‘diet’ and your focus should be on finding an approach to eating that you can maintain for a lifetime. Doing things to 'speed up weight loss' may actually hinder your progress and ability to maintain in the long run, not only because it could interfere with you finding the menu planning and carb threshold that is right for you, but also because your body will be confused causing your weight loss to slow or stop.

This is a really great response from the AN....I hope some of the people from the meat/egg challenge and main lobby see this. (I think Brandy has been eating this way for 3+ months!)
