Atkins Friendly Nutritionist?
Hi!
I am just finishing my second week of induction. Many of my friends and family have suggested I do Atkins under the supervision of a nutritionist. In terms of driving time, I live about halfway between Nashua NH and Cambridge MA, so it sounds like I am close to where a lot of you live. Since everyone seems too busy right now for a physical get-together where I could have asked, I wonder whether anyone could recommend an Atkins friendly nutritionist in this forum. Is that an okay subject to discuss here? Also, I can recommend the B.J.'s in Nashua as a good value source of low carb foods. My neighbor also says the Christmas Tree Shop in Salem NH had some surprising bargains on low carb products. Thanks mgwmgwmgw |

There is actually a board on here that has an Atkins Nutritionalist answering questions. You might try asking there and they maybe they can give you a list of nutritionalists in your area.
Good Luck! |

Feel free to post some menus and I'll take a look and let you know how you are doing.
In terms of recommending a Nutritionist, I am not familiar with your area. Maybe someone else on this board can make a recommendation, or just look them up in the phone book. You want to make sure you see a Registered Dietitian and let them know before hand that you are following the Atkins Nutritional Approach. The American Dietetic Association website www.eatright.org allows you to find an RD in your area by typing in your zip code. You want to focus on whole foods in your meal planning, not on low carb products. If you don't already have New Diet Revolution or Atkins Essentials, go to www.atkins.com to learn more about meal planning. Good luck! |

Re: Atkins Friendly Nutritionist
Thanks for the ADA pointer. I do have the books.
The man in my life, who is also on Atkins, is my dayly expert in what is in them. He has read them more carefully than I. The fertility specialist says I need to drop about 1oo pounds before I have a hope of getting pregnant. So...unfortunately what I eat *will* have to be low carb, as well as good nutrition. I am experimenting with 25 grams of carb this week and see if I keep losing weight. It isn't really fair to ask you to deal with all my complexities in this forum. I really do need to bring my bottles of medicine and supplements into someone's office, and give them some time to untangle it. Interestingly, Lorraine B Love RD LD, was a name I heard as second-hand information from a doctor I know. She's also listed on the ADA page that you pointed me at, affiliated with the same hospital as other doctors I see. Thing is, I know there is passionate debate about Atkins, for and against. I just don't have any need for an RD who will try to talk me out of Atkins. Nor do I have a need for someone who does not have the right mix of expertise. A generic RD won't suffice here. So, if anyone knows the Boston area Dietitions, PLEASE do offer your opinions on one or more of them. mgwmgwmgw |
