Stonach Acid.....Ow!

I've been on the Atkins WOL for mearly 3 weeks. What I'm beginning to notice is very painful stomach acid rising up my oesophagus during the late evenings. I don't want to keep taking Rennie tabs, I want to address the cause. any suggestions??

Sounds like Acid Reflux..dh had it..his was caused by coffee and
soft drinks or hot chocolate and sometimes tea..He felt much
better after lowcarbing and losing weight..However, he still can't

Are you on any medications? I have the same problem and it is caused by meds that I was on for almost 4 years.... I am off of them now but still have acid reflux on occassion though not nearly as often as before.

That is tough to pin-point because I was on about 25 different ones over the 4 year period. From Lorazapam to Morphine. After surgery I was finally weaned off of all of them. However my Dr. told me that because I had been put on so many they had irritated my insides causing the heartburn and reflux.....it is way better now. Down from about 9 times a day to 1.

Acid Reflux

What is acid reflux?
Also, acid is used to digest protein, whereas alkalines are used to process carbs. Could this be a reason?

Well...sometimes fattier proteins..like bacon, sausage, etc.
can cause stomach distress..cheese, too..Do an internet search
on acid reflux...I'm sure you will find tons of information on it..

Is this occurring only in the evenings? Keep in mind that a trigger for acid reflux and uncomfortable bloating is lying down after eating a lot. That’s because a full stomach puts extra pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, the valve that closes off your stomach from your esophagus. While that alone is enough to cause acid reflux, forcing stomach acid up into your esophagus and causing heartburn, lying down in bed or on the couch makes it even easier for the acid to escape. By keeping late-night eating to a minimum and avoiding laying down after eating, however, you sharply reduce the likelihood of experiencing heartburn. Also certain foods may trigger acid reflux so you want to identify and avoid these foods.
