flavoured coffee

Does anyone know the carb count of flavoured coffee?

I know we can put the no carb flavoured syrups in our coffee, but that doesn't taste as good.

My local coffeehouse doesn't have any nutritional information. (And I think they thought I was a bit daft for asking!)

I have a can of Folger's brand Hazlenut flavoured coffee. It doesn't list any nutritional information, and the only information it offers in the way of ingredients is "100% pure coffee with added natural and artificial flavors."

Should be the same.

flavoured coffee

After submitting that post, I noticed the folger's web address printed below on the can. I checked it out and they also say no carbs.

Do you get flavoured coffee out? Einstien Bros. Bagels? Panera Bread? Starbucks? Are their's no carb too? Some of those taste WAY too good to be legal!!

I had some flavored coffee at our local coffeehouse the other day. First I asked the owner if there was sugar or anything in it. She said no, that there wasn't anything added to the coffee, it was how the bean was grown.

Tammy,

Just an FYI...some flavored coffees are based solely on the beans, and others are based on flavors that are added (like hazelnut, etc.). It just varies.

Here is an interesting overview....
http://www.sallys-place.com/beverage...ed_coffees.htm

Adding flavors to coffee is not as innovative a concept as one may think. The Arabs were the first coffee drinkers who added spices such as cinnamon to their coffees. Other Middle Easterners followed with the addition of cardamom, clove, nutmeg, black pepper, allspice and even ground nuts. Later came the addition of citrus peels, spirits and chocolate. When coffee was introduced to the Western world, they added cream and sugar to enhance the coffee flavor. These natural flavorings were added to the coffee either while brewing or once it was in the cup.

Today, flavored coffees get many of their tastes from chemical solvents which mimic natural flavorings and which are added to the whole bean while it is still warm from roasting. Because the added flavor needs to be quite assertive to be noticeable over the existing coffee flavors, you may find the aromas from a bin of flavored beans to be overpowering.

Flavored whole beans are usually separated into four categories:

vanilla-based flavors
which includes the cremes (such as French vanilla or Irish creme) and the nut-based flavors (such as macadamia nut or hazelnut)

chocolate-based flavors
such as chocolate mint

fruit-based flavors
such as raspberry or coconut

spice-based flavors
such as cinnamon

Of these four groups, the vanilla-based flavors are the most popular (with hazelnut being the best-selling within this category). Second runner up is the chocolate group with the fruit then spice groups following.

Thanks, Bethany for clarifying this. I know the owner of the coffeeshop I frequent, and she assures me their beans are flavored and they do not add any flavoring. So, I hope I'm safe. Occassionally, I will get the regular coffee with some sf flavoring added, and I do add sf flavoring at home. I was getting breve, because I thought it was okay since it had 1/2 & 1/2 and not milk. Then one day I questioned the owner and found out it had a lot of 1/2 and 1/2. No more breve for me

Some flavored coffees contain hidden carbohydrates. Hazelnut, almond, or other nut- or grain-extracted flavors are fine, but do check labels for the carb count. If your purchasing it from a restaurant, it is always a good idea to ask what's in it, and if you don't get a clear answer, it would be best not to purchase it just to be sure.
