Too much protein

I have a problem, when I eat too much protein or too much fat, my stomach hurts. That is one reason that keeps me away from following the atkins diet. Is there any way to do this say without the huge amounts of protein and fat, like adding in a few more veggies, etc, that I can still lose weight on?...It seems to happen most when I eat egg yolks and a lot of meat. Maybe there is something out there that I can substitute?

I am going to suggest Measure your portions 3-4oz at a time and eat more frequent. We tend to want to eat more if we are real hungry if we haven't ate in awhile. Keeping yourself satisfied not only levels out Blood sugar so there isn't a drop, but also fends off the hunger bug.

The Atkins Nutritional Approach is all about individualizing your meal planning for what works best for you. Modifying your menu to include more vegetables is okay and you can still lose weight, but it may be at a slower rate.

However, it may be a good idea to see your doctor about this. If you are eating only until full and not ‘stuffing’ yourself, you should not be experiencing the pains you describe. It is possible that something may be wrong with your gallbladder, whose function is to help the body digest fats. If this is true, it would not have been caused by you following Atkins, rather, you may have already had this condition but it is made worse when eating the foods you choose.

If you are only experiencing this with eggs and meat, I would suggest reducing the amount of these that you eat and focus more on other proteins sources such as poultry and fish. And Diana's suggestion is a good one too. But if the pains continue, you may want to see your doctor.

Carol,

I noticed that you posted essentially the same question in April....it might be time to actually check in with the doc since this seems to be a lasting problem for you.
