hair loss

I posted this on the main forum also, but thought it worth posting here, I am really worried.

I am losing my hair big time, I know that can be a side effect, but I do not like it at all. I have been doing Atkins now for awhile, but now the hair loss is getting to be too muhc for me not to worry about. Anyone else have/had this happen, if so, what did you do to combat it. Thanks so much is advance.

I have the same issue...

I do take suppliments and have started taking Biotin...hopefully that will help.

In the past, I did lose weight on another weight loss plan and never had this issue. I tried LCing and I started losing hair....I stopped LCing and the hair loss stops.

I started LCing in May and I am experiencing a tremendous amount of hair loss again....I am afraid I will not be able to keep this up.

I had lost a lot of hair while on Atkins as well.. it happens on any weightloss plan... It was coming out at an alarming rate...

Here is what I did to stop it...

I started taking 5000 mcg biotin... which is 5 mg. They give that amount to babies with cradle cap and what ever your body doesn't use it will just let the extra pass on through...

I upped my protein because I could see I wasn't eating enough...

I started using rogaine for women. I got the walmart brand and could really tell it was helping.... it says on the box that if you stop using it then the hair loss will resume but that is only if you have male pattern baldness... ours isn't that kind of loss...

Also... Make sure you are not skipping meals. If you are too low on calories your body might mistake that for starvation mode and it will shut down the things that are not neccessary for your body to function... including your hair. growth..

Don't panic hun... it happens to a lot of people and will stop... your hair will grow back.

Hope this helps!

I can tell you from many years of experience...that was not the case for me.

I will up my Biotin I am taking 3000 mcg now, I was a little nervous about taking more.....but if there is not a concern....I will.

I will check into the rogaine....I was also concerned I would have to use it forever!

Thanks Cheri!!!

Hair loss is an individual response that is not directly caused by doing Atkins. It can be diet related, especially if you are consuming insufficient calories. Hormone changes can also be the cause. In addition to ensuring adequate calorie consumption, you may want to discuss this and using supplements, with your doctor. Biotin as well as L-Cysteine are supplements that may help the symptoms you describe.
