Guilty after some cheating...

I feel like Im losing my focus. I did induction for about 2 weeks, and have done well. I think I lost about 7 pounds maybe, and I dont have to lose a whole lot more. Id be happy with about 15 more.

So, Im feeling good and clothes are fitting better, and what do I do? I eat cereal for b-fast (I LOVE CEREAL)! Then today, I did well, but I nipped at a biscuit.

This may seem like my worrying is over the top, but there have been other "little nips." I hate that I do that, and I obsess - literally - about whether or not Ive jeopardized my work so far.

Do I have to go back to induction? This is what I ate today:

2 eggs for bfast

chicken salad for lunch (with taste of biscuit)

jello with redi whip

more chicken salad for dinner and some meat sauce from the family pasta dinner (but no pasta).

Diet Pepsi

Im craving cereal - which to me, on WW - was a sweet treat. You know, not much fat, a whole yummy taste...

I feel Im losing focus, and although I dont have a TON to lose, I still want clothes to fit better than they do now...

So I have a few questions -
1. Do I have to go back on induction?
2. Is it necessary to beat myself up about these or am I being over the top?
3. How quickly should I expect to lose this weight?

Im very active - teach aerobics during the week. I am healthy and fit, so Im assuming the weight comes off slower... Any idea what timeframe I should be guessing?

Thanks for any input...Im feeling like Ive ruined what I began...

you are probably stalling from eating all that aspartame, the jello and diet pepsi both have it. Also, there are plenty of low-carb cereals you can eat. Atkins has several, as well at the KETO Cocoa Crisp cereal is really good.

Thanks - I will stay away from the aspartame. As for veggies and protein, I guess I thought I was doing ok beacuse of the meat. I eat cheese regularly too, and some nuts.

I may have to read in my book about some other high protein foods, too. I get in a rut and eat the same thing over and over...

Thanks

Hi tracey,

I am glad you bring up your dilema because I think there a couple of important messages that we can all benefit from:

1. Your feelings of "cheating" and not being on Induction
2. Not using the phases of Atkins to guide you to identifying your carbohydrate level for maintaining weight, also known as (CCLM) or (ACE).

If you are not on Induction, you should be in OWL, how many carbs are you consuming.

From your list it seems that you are not eating at least 3 cups of veggies but you are eating small amounts of foods that are high in carbs (redi-whip (corn syrup), nuts, biscuits, tomato sauce...

It is important for you to change your eating habits or your weight will creep back. I think you may benefit from keeping a food diary and noting the portion sizes of these foods.

If you like cereal measure out a portion, put it in a bag and do not allow yourself more than this. Being on Atkins, does not mean you cannot eat cereal or your favorite foods ever again. But you will have to make choices. If you eat cereal, you may want to avoid nuts/biscuits

If you are craving foods, it may be because you are not in ketosis anymore and are eating enough of these foods that they are causing you to crave. Or, maybe you are not eating enough calories and your body is telling you to eat more?

Your snacking should be on protein/fats (olives, avocado, chicken legs...)

Your question is one I will ask you to answer but I will help you along. "Do I have to go back to induction?" I think you may want to back on Induction and do the plan as recommended and go through the phases of the plan. Or, just switch the higher carb foods you are eating for more protein/fat/vegetables and less high sugar carbs, ie 1/2 serving of cereal and no high carb nibbles.

2. Is it necessary to beat myself up about these or am I being over the top?

No, but it is important that you become aware of what you are eating, flexibility is important when making lifestyle changes

3. How quickly should I expect to lose this weight?

This is unimportant, if you make permanant changes and it takes 1 month vs. 2 weeks you will be more likely to maintain your eating habits and maintain your successful weight loss.

I wish you the best!
