Atkins people please help...
I bought the Atking cereal today (with the berries) which is 4 net carbs. It says "serving size is 2/3 cup (30gr)" I weighed it and 30 grams where way less then the 2/3 cup mark on my messuring cup. What gives? emijan

Obviously I'm not the Atkins Nutritionalist..but would love to venture a guess here. I would imagine the size and amont is averaged..as each flke is not going to be the same size and weight. Hence..the first "serving" is probably bigger flakes (as they would probably be on top..smaller ones to the bottom of the box" and thus..it's an average. I sould go by weight myself..and see if at the end of the box..the weight doesn't equal a bigger looking serving.

If you weigh the cereal it should be 1 oz, not measure the cereal and then weigh it. 30 g = 1 oz. Does this help clarify the inconsistency? |

Sorry, it doesn't help!
I am a nurse and deal with grams every day. This was from the top of the box, so it was all flakes (supposibly bigger volum than the crushed flakes on the bottom) any I WEIGHED it first and then placed it in a measuring cup and it was barely 1/2. emijan |

Weight is always more accurate than volume..I think that's
why many of us can be eating more carbs without realizing it.. Thanks for asking the question.. ![]() |

I just want you to know I have communicated with the food technologists and am waiting for a response.
So, please keep the thread going/remind me we are waiting for a response in case I forget. We will get to the bottom of this. |

It may be a matter of emijan's scale being off. I don't have any low carb cereal on hand, but I just took 1 cup of my son's Honey Nut Cheerios and weighed them and they weigh almost exactly 30 grams, which is what the box states for a 1 cup serving. I don't know if Atkins flakes would be lighter or heavier than Cheerios, but my guess is they'd be lighter and if that's the case, 30 grams should easily measure 2/3 cup. Cheerios are small and dense yet it took a whole cup to weigh 30 grams.

emijan, my little food scale might not be terribly accurate either, but I don't think it was a coincidence that the Cheerios weighed just about 30 grams as stated on the box.
