Question about flax seeds/oil

I read Barry Sears book, "The Zone" recently and it explains perfectly why I have always enjoyed good health in my life when on a low carb diet. Although I am probably spelling it wrong and can't pronounce the word for the life of me - eichonoids are obviously pretty powerful.

I have one question. Barry Sears as well as the authors of Protein power say that flax seeds/oil have ALA in them which unfortunately destroys both the good and bad eichonoids (sp). I understand the authors of protein power have changed their views, but haven't heard the explanation as to why?

Has Barry Sears changed his opinion regarding ALA? I ask because I love flax meal on salads and would like to be able to use it even if I have to bake below 212 degrees due to the low smoke point of flax oil.

So are the good and bad eichonoids destroyed or not with flax?

I'm not sure I can answer your question specifically but let me tell you what I do know.

Flax is a good source of Omega 3.

Many people consume too much Omega 6 oil and throw off the balance of Omega 3 and 6 which is important.

So, I would think it is important.

I am interested in getting more info about your point with the Eucanobinoid (sp?) and flax relationship.

I think again the best option is to use a variety of oils in moderation.

Yes, the omega 3 is another reason I would like to be able to use it not to mention the soluble fiber and insoluble fiber which causes the carbs to net out to zero plus I do like the taste. Not to mention no worries about mercury poisoning like with too much cold water fish.

Wish I knew how to eat sardines. They say the little fish has low mercury levels, but only like sardines on crackers which are a no no.

If you find out anything, let me know. I'm curious as to WHY the authors of protein power changed their minds in case you have a way of contacting them and picking their brains.
