Tell me, am I maintaining?
I started low-carbing in May of 2003.
I did eat more or less South Beach in November (2 weeks) and May (2.5 weeks) due to traveling and family emergencies. I went down as far as 142.5 in January but then my birthday happend and cake came my way. I've been between 149 and 153 ever since. I went from 20 carbs, 72 Atkins, to the egg/meat fast for 4 weeks and have been at 150.5 for those 4 weeks. I stopped the egg/meat fast because I wanted to go up the carb ladder and find good number for me. I weighed 153 on Monday but today am back to 150.5 (seems to be a magic number) My weight fluctuates a pound up or a pound down but I have not been able to break below 149. I eat clean, no bars or other products. I have an injury in my foot that flared up last week and made me stop my exercise but it has calmed down and next week I'm starting exercise again. So am I maintaining and isn't under 20 carbs a bit too little for me? ps I'm 5'6 and female.

A few questions that may help us pinpoint the problem:
How far are you from your goal? Are you on any medications? Is it possible that your fluctuations are fluid related? Have you lost inches despite what the scale reads? Do have any other symptoms that may be related to hormone imbalance, yeast, thyroid? It seems that you are at some sort of plateau but this does not mean you cannot continue to lose, so if you can exercise a little patience, we will try to get you to start losing again. |

I'm about 7 away from goal.
No medications, no yeast. I did lose inches on the egg/meat fast. If this is a plateau, then it's a darn long one, 7 months. The fluctuation might very well be water weight. My fitday link is in my siggie, feel free to look. |

Ok this helps. Let's continue digging to the bottom of this problem.
First, let me say and I'm sure you have heard this before...the last 5-10 pounds is the hardest to get off. Now with that said, I have more questions/comments: Please elaborate on why you think the weight may be fluid related. Are you consuming high amounts of salty food? How many carbs were you eating when you reached 142.5 and is there any thing different in your lifestyle now vs. then Are you maintaining the inches lost despite an increase in weight? With the inches lost are you satisfied with how your cloths fit and how you look? Your goal weight may not be realistic, if your inches put you at the smallest size you have ever been. |
