Concerned about my family

I have been doing low carb/ Atkins for 2 months now and have been cooking low carb for the evening meals my family eats together. My question is...Since alot of my low carb meals are higher in fat and protein with cheese and meat, We also have a low carb vegetable but sometimes I make them corn or potatoes. am I jeapordizing my families health since they all continue to eat the pasta's, rices and breads? Do need to cook 2 meals so I can make theirs lower in fat / protein?

It is so great that you and your family eat together! Studies have shown that families that do eat together have healthier eating habits.

You do not need to cook 2 different meals for your family. Cheese and meat may be higher in fat and protein, but these are essential macronutrients that provide energy but also make you fuller faster. I would recommend emphasizing portion control to your family and make sure they are eating when they are hungry and stopping when they are full, and that they do not feel as though they have to clean their plates. The vegetable is also important to provide fiber and essential vitamins and minerals.

You will not be jeopardize their health by including pasta, rice, and potatoes occasionally for a little variety if they like these foods, as long as you are emphasizing portion control, as these are easy to overeat and contain little nutrient value. It would be best to include the most nutrient-rich varieties of these foods such as whole wheat pasta, brown rice, and sweet potatoes, rather than the processed versions which are stripped of nutrients.

It’s all about making healthier, smarter choices and it seems like you are on the right track!

This is also my experience now a year on my family have naturally chosen to eat much smaller portions of the starch part of the meal.
I do buy bread and pasta for them but nothing like the quantities I used to. None of them have weight problems but enjoy what I cook .

Thanks for the replies, I'll just keep cooking like I do and hopefully everyone will be happy and healthy.
