re -induction
I was on the atkins diet, well way of life and I lost alot of weight then I went off. I did gain some back, and I am very depressed I currently am 5 foot 4inches and weight 140 I really feel over weight and fight with my husband about it all the time, so I am know I am not happy. I just have a hard time staying on this because of the fruit, and the bread. I am think about starting it again tomorrow, but alot of people say it is bad for you, I know I can do it if I put my mind to it, and my weight is so important to me, but my health is even more important to me. Please can you give me some advice? I am a mother of 2 and never ever had a weight problem before kids. thanks

Healthy? The focus of low carb is protein, a wide variety of vegetables & fruits, plus an assortment of lower glycemic grains. How could it not be healthy? What you're giving up is the "whites" ... flour, sugar, rice, bread ... and replacing them with whole grains.
There's no reason you can't adapt low carb to your food preferences. If you really miss fruit and bread, add them ... but probably in smaller portions (whole wheat baked goods will have fewer 'net' carbs and increase your fiber intake). Your weight loss will slow with the extra carbs, but you're designing a program you can LIVE with. You don't want to have a make/break attitude about low carbing. ![]() |

Thanks, Kimmer, for providing such great advice.
Just wanted to add that Atkins is not a ‘diet’, it is an approach to eating that teaches you how to find the level of carbohydrate that is right for you. You individualize your meal planning to include the foods that you love (yes, even fruit and whole wheat bread) but in portions that stay within your personal carbohydrate threshold. You mentioned that you were on atkins, but went off. My interpretation of this is that you followed Induction and limited your carbohydrate intake to 20 grams a day and lost weight, but then went back to your former eating habits. This is not the Atkins Nutritional Approach. The ANA does start with Induction, but then you add back 5 grams of carbs a week in Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) where your rate of weight loss does slow. This will allow you to find the level that allows you to maintain the weight you have lost. I would suggest checking out http://atkins.com/howto/index.html to learn more about the phases and how you can individualize your meal planning. Congrats on recognizing the importance of being healthy, rather than just focusing on weight. This type of motivation will definitely lead to your success. Now all you need is the tools to get on the right path and educating yourself on the phases of the Atkins Nutritional Approach is a great start. Good luck! |
