Hope for diabetics/gallbladder disease
I just purchased "Atkins Diabetes Revolution" to pass on to my Mom. She is a diabetic who has had her gallbladder removed due to pancreatitis. Because of this she has trouble digesting some proteins and has been told to stay away from fats. Before I pass the book on though, is it possible to be on Atkins with these types of restrictions? Any suggestions or modifications?
All disclaimers aside, I know she needs to follow the reccomendations of her dr. but Im just wondering if there have been any instances of success with people having these complications on top of diabetes. She has put on weight since her gallbladder surgery and her carb cravings and bloodsugar (sometimes) are out of control even with her insulin. Atkins has changed my life (I was pre-diabetic) but I dont want to set her up with false hopes if she cant adapt the program to what her body can handle, or find a dr. that supports this woe. Thanks for your response!

Hi Kimmer!
There are those who have had their gallbladder removed and still do Atkins. If she has trouble digesting certain proteins, she should avoid them, other than that I cannot think of any reason she should not follow the plan, except if her doctor thinks there is a reason for her not to follow the plan. I hope Atkins works for her as it has for you! |

HI -
Unless, like the AN said above, your mom has some special dietary issues the removal of her gall bladder should not affect what she eats. Your mom's doctor will know what limitations she has due to her unique body chemistry. I had my gall bladder out about 8 years ago. I have no restrictions. Xanthra |

I think they (diet restrictions) are actually related to chronic pancrea*itus, which they also diagnosed when she had her gall bladder removed.
