Quitting smoking

I have been on Atkins almost 5 years. Lost about 25 pounds and have kept it off. 4 1/2 months ago I quit smoking (good for me!) I went back to induction, exercised regulary and held even until about 3 weeks ago when I jumped about 6 pounds. I have gone back to induction again, kept up the exercise and cannot budge one pound. Any thoughts on what might help? My clothes are getting tight!!

Smoking may have effected your metabolism. Have you spoken to your doctor about this?

There are some things you might try, why not post a sample day of meals and I might be able to provide you with specific advice.

I quit a few months ago and gained 8 lbs - never lost any of it until I went back to smoking. My doc says that quitting smoking can change your metabolism for up to a year. Meanwhile, be thankful that it was only a few pounds, since 20 pounds is the average. Your good eating is, no doubt, what kept the gain down.

Good luck!

I guess it does change your metabolism. I just wondered if there is anything we can do to "kick it up a notch!"
Here is a typical day's menu

B deviled egg
LC yogurt (3 carbs)

L Chef salad or chicken caeser salad

D Chicken breast or pork chop or other meat
small salad or celery sticks or broccoli salad
Snack smokehouse almonds or some cheese

This scares the bejeezes out of me. A few more pounds and I am quitting. I am so afraid of gaining and starting again. I have been referred to quitnet.net which is a support board for quitters.

Hey jdprecious!
I know how you feel. It is very disturbing to try so hard and still gain or at least not lose. But just look at that little girl of yours. Quitting smoking is the best gift you can give her. I just keep telling myself that these few pounds are nothing compared to the damage I was doing by smoking. And I have to believe they will eventually come off. But in the meantime it is very depressing!!
