Embarrassing problem
I have a kind of an embarrassing question. First, I have started Atkins several times and this problem always seems to occur. After about 4 days into Induction, even though I'm drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day, I seem to have a strong urine odor and sometimes my bladder hurts a bit. Although the hurt part doesn't happen often. It's not just when I pee, it seems to be in my clothes. I've never said anything because I was too embarrassed but since no one can see me, I guess this is the perfect forum. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what does one do to overcome it or is Atkins eating plan just not for me?
! Please advise! Alfur |

Strong smell could be Ketosis. I would suggest drinking more water. Have you been to the DR to see if you have a Bladder infection?
Remember 64oz of water really isn't enough for anyone. For eample I drink up to 200oz a day. I love water! I do have 2 cups of coffee in the morning and 1 can of Diet Rite after lunch |

To ease your mind I have this too. It started when I began the meat/egg fast and hasn't gone away eventhough I stopped the fast the beginning of this month. I was thinking last night about making an appt with the doctor because the odor reminds of when I have had a UTI, except there's no pain.
I drink atleast 96 oz of water. Maybe the A_N can let us know if this is normal. Oh, you know I did start taking Carb Smart when I did the meat/egg fast. Maybe it's something in the vitamin. Are you taking supps? |

The odor is not something I am familiar with as a result of doing Atkins.
I suggest you drink 100 oz of water. Speak with your doctor Consider the possibility of yeast overgrowth, visit the atkins website; www.atkins.com and search yeast or candida If you have symptoms that are related to yeast, let me know. You will have to avoid foods that promote yeast growth and should use acidophilus as a supplement. Please let us know about your findings. |

I have the same problem since LC. I know it is a combo of ketosis and yeast. I'm trying to control the yeast. My DH even notices the smell
! I have started bathing 2X day, and wearing a panty liner (slightly sented) and it seems better.Wow, strange when we come out with our most embarrassing problems here we find we are not alone! |

alfur... I have seen others with this problem and it usually tends to lesson after awhile, so don't panic... make sure you are drinking plenty of water, as the others are saying and check with your doctor if you are having pain along with it... It might be a bladder infection as well... I have had plenty of them.

re: embarassing problem
Thank you all so very much, I thought I was not a candidate for Atkins. I have been having thoughts in the back of my mind that maybe my kidneys were weak somehow Atkins way of eating put a strain on them. I'm reasonably sure that's not the case. The last few times when I tried induction it happened so I gave up "Atkins" within the two weeks and then it went away. As far as vitamins I do take (or try to take) kinda (at least 5 days) the "Carb Smart, One a day", but I don't think that is the problem. I will try more water. I probably won't see my doctor about it since I'm sure he wouldn't support Atkins way of eating anyway. Again, I want to thank everyone and appreciate that there is no problem we can't talk about here, because it really seems if one experiences it, there are others out there.

Barb, May I suggest you find another Dr? I had to when I found out mine didn't like Atkins and told me how I was going to basically Kill myself. This guy was a dr, you'd think he would understand Low Carbing
