Dr. Atkins Observations vs. "New Science"

I think a question that many of us have is where the AN says Dr. Atkins' observations in his clinical practice are not substantiated by research ... therefore the changes in his original plan.

Granted, I'm not a scientific person and have no background in medicine, but how can Dr. Atkins' experiences with literally thousands of patients spanning 30 years be suddenly discounted?

I don't think most of us will ever discount the experience of the good Doc. Bottom line - it worked. Can't argue with success.

But it's like arguing politics I guess - a no win situaltion. Just so you know I understand your frustration but I've decided to accept the things I can't change. I'm too old to fight.

I think the point is that nutrition is a new and dynamic field.

We must not discount any of the valuable information we get from new research or the practical experience from Dr. Atkins.

It is important to keep an open mind about new ideas and solutions, this is something Dr. Atkins was famous for that not so many people know. He was always willing to listen and learn!

I think this is a valuable trait and we should not get caught up in the crossfire of who is right and who is wrong. It is much more important to focus on what individual things work for different people and use all the resources we have to help others to their goal!
