Suggested time on Induction and other phase questions?

How long do you suggest people now stay on Induction or at induction level carbs?

Is it still just as important to move through all 4 stages to maintain succesfully??

Can you give suggested pound increments on moving from Induction to OWL, to Pre Maintenance and on into Maintenance?

The time frame of following the different phases of the program should be determined by you with consideration of the amount of weight you want to lose, the types of foods you enjoy eating and your personality in relation to being able to follow the guidelines of the Atkins plan.

Induction can be followed for a minimum of 2 weeks up until you get to 10 pounds within your goal weight. If you follow Induction for a long time, you must not go below 20 grams of carbs and consume a minimum of 3-4 cups of salad veggies. It is also important to consume a variety of protein (fish, chicken, turkey, veal...) not just red meat.

OWL-After 2 weeks and up until you are within 10 pounds of your goal. In this phase, you add back 5 grams of carbs each day for a week, keep in mind this is an increase from 20-25 after 1 week then after the second week increase to 30 grams total. You can continue doing this until weight loss slows. All the while, keeping in mind how the foods you add effect your appetite and the rate of weight loss.

The last 5-10 pounds should be lost in the pre-maintenance phase and this should take place at a very slow rate, about 1/4 of a pound/week. This will help you transition to maintenance.

Once you are at maintenance, you will have determined your ACE (Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium) or CCLM (critical carbohydrate level for maintaining weight) and you should remain in this phase for the rest of your life.

I hope this helps put things into perspective.
