No Ketosis and no loss
Hi,
I've been doing Atkins induction and I'm having a bit of trouble. My husband and I started together and initially we both lost 7lbs. Next week he lost 3lbs. and I lost 1lb. Third week he lost a pound, I gained 8oz. We walk in the mornings and then I do either Body Flex or Curves. Sorry for the long intro. but my qestion is this: why when he eats the same food I do does he get a purple reading on the Ketoe stick and if I get even a "new bride blush" I'm thrilled. (Mostly there is no change...depresingly beige!) I get that guys lose easier, but shouldn't I be able to get to ketosis as well as he does? I feel like I'm working twice as hard for no progress. Any suggestions? Megan |

Congrats on your success so far! That is so great that you and your husband have decided to follow the Atkins Nutritional Approach together!
Don’t let the difference in your rate of loss discourage you. Individuals lose at different rates, and it is true that males may lose faster than females and it is also dependent on the amount of weight you have to lose. Let me stress that ketosis does not define success. The scale may not have moved, but you could still be losing inches. Be sure to check your measurements too, not just the number on the scale. Please don’t focus on the color of the keto-stick. As long as you are losing pounds and inches, feeling better, and have more energy, that is the true success. Good luck to you and your husband! |

Thanks for the encouragement, but should I be doing something different than my husband...like less cheese or something?

The Atkins Nutritional Approach does have to be individualized according to your preferences and to your needs to meet your goals. The meal planning that works best for your husband may not be what is best for you, and you have to play around to see what does work best for you.
You can have up to three to four ounces of full-fat, firm, soft, and semi-soft aged cheese during Induction, but remember that all cheeses have some carbohydrate content so that may be one area where you individualize your meal planning from your husbands. Another thing to do could be to eat 6 times a day, breaking your meals up into smaller ones. These are just a few suggestions, you have to find what would work best for you and fit into your personal schedule. Hope this helps. Keep it up! |
