Extreme resistance

This is my third time on Atkins, the first two times were very successful for me. This time I started out wonderfully lost 33 pounds in 2 months time and was so pleased. Then stalled, and am still stalled 11 months later.
I stay on Atkins because I love the way I feel, not a slave to food, no headaches and no cravings for sugar,,,ect.
I have tried all the stall busters out there, Fat Fast , Kiss, Kimkins ( under 1000 calories lean meats )…Ive upped my carbs , lowered my carbs, everything. I fasted for a weekend and lost 5 pounds but once I started eating it came back.
I exercise using Tony Little’s Gazelle 20 to 30 minutes a day.
I bought some ketone sticks and am always dark purple unless I drink a lot of water.
My only vise is I drink diet pop. I know Aspartame causes stalls but could it cause an 11 month stall?
Ive given up frankenfoods for long periods of time , but brought them back after seeing no results ( low carb bread in moderation )

I have lost a couple inches in my hips and bust, but that’s it, I wear the same size clothes as I did last September.

180-ish is where I have been for most of my adult life, ( thin before pregnancy ) so I am assuming this is my set point.

Supplements I take are
Biotin for hair loss
Atkins Dieters Advantage
Niacin for metabolism
Fish oil for amega-3 fatty acids
Carb Smart one a day
Calcium
DHEA

Any Suggestion would be great.

I wanted to add....all my life I have heard people say " if you eat fewer calories then you burn you will lose wieght" well I track everything on Fit Day and I am consuming about 1/3 the calories that I burn.

Congrats on the success you have had so far! Stalls can be frustrating but don’t let them discourage you completely. It would be helpful if you provided more info about your eating history and daily meal plan. What phase were you in and what were you eating when you began to stall? It may be possible that you are not eating enough and I would be able to better advise you by knowing what you typically eat. But from what you have told me so far, I can offer some suggestions.

First, I want to reinforce that this way of eating not only helps promote weight loss, but also helps you to lead a healthier lifestyle. The focus should be on health, not on weight. With this in mind, I hope you recognize that fasting in never a good idea. Not only is it unhealthy and unsafe, but you will not even maintain the little weight you lose by doing this.

In order to jump start your weight loss again, try mixing things up a little. In terms of your eating routine, consider eating 6 small meals throughout the day. In terms of your exercise routine, I’m not familiar with what you have described, but I would suggest that your work-out be a combination of activities that gets your heart rate up in intervals. Your body gets ‘muscle memory’ if you do the same movement over and over, so you want to do something that maximizes what you burn.

Please provide me with more info about your eating and exercise routines so that I can offer more individualized advice.

Do you have specific information as to why water fasting is unsafe? Not only are there medical doctors who supervise therapeutic water fasts with excellent results, including dramatic improvement in chronic illness ... but literally millions of people worldwide fast on a regular basis for extended periods to comply with religious beliefs.

We have a vast library of fasting links in the "30 Day Detox" thread in the Past Amazing Posts forum, if you'd care to read them. They are scientific studies, including autopsy findings.

Babykinz, to clarify, "Kimkins" is not <1000 calories per day. It is <20 carbs total (per 1992 DANDR), 70-90 gm protein (RDA is only 60), up to 3 cups salad veggies (per 1992 DANDR). When, what I term 'real' ketosis hits, you lose appetite and naturally reduce the amounts of food eaten, this naturally results in lower calories. Lower calories are not forced. This is discussed in depth by Dr. Atkins in his earlier books.

my <20carbs and <1000Calories is my newest phase of eating....I did alot of reading on Kimkins and did that for a couple weeks...I read it as being mostly strict induction. No luck there. So now I just eat what ever as long as its lowcarb and under 20 carbs a day. Like I said I've done it all...at this point I am gonnna stop being so strict, as long as I dont gain Im happy.

Example of my menu:

I bought some Low Carb eggos, Ive read here they were good and wanted to try them, and yes they are good.

Breakfast: I ate one this morning with a teaspoon of peanut butter.

Lunch: a hamburger patty with a tablespoon sourcream.

Snack 2 slices of american cheese microwaved till crisp.

Dinner : hamburger patty with a table spoon home made sausa.

source grams cals %total
Total: 952
Fat: 63 563 60%
Sat: 24 215 23%
Poly: 3 29 3%
Mono: 23 211 23%
Carbs: 21 60 6%
Fiber: 7 0 0%
Protein: 78 311 33%
Alcohol: 0 0 0%

This is pretty typical for me.... sometimes I will eat a salad but my appetite isnt very big and salads just dont tempt me .I cut out SF chocolate about a week ago.

I would suggest avoiding-
Low Carb foods- Waffles, carb freedom yogurt
Maybe cut out the PNB and try some nuts- Peanuts are not nuts. Maybe 1 ounce of Macadamas, almonds (unsalted)
Stick with more natural stuff- Chicken, fish, turkey, lean meats. Add Butter, olive oil for fats.
Have salads- Spinach, other green leaf lettuce, other veggies, cucumbers, green beans.

Are you watching Portion size? example Palm=meat serving, 1 cup of veggies, 2-3 cups of Salad
Are you measuring out your foods?
Drinking more then 64oz of water?
exercising?

I hope the SF chocolate wasn't on Kimkins -- no LC products allowed!

Unless your sour cream and homemade sauce were flat measured in a measuring tablespoon (not kitchen cereal spoon), your Fitday info will be off.

I've been losing more since I increased my carbs above 20 and my calories to about 1400-1500. My carbs come mostly from flax seed, salads, vegetables, and some cream.

Try changing something to see what works. I hardly ever eat nuts or cheese.

DianoO...I have eaten clean induction level whole foods for so long with no results. So Just as a last ditch effort or maybe as a personal experiment I am gonna eat some "frankenfoods".

Kimmer ...I measure everything to a T, well not meat portions but liquid and dry ingredients , Including sourcream and peanut butter!

Measuring foods has been a real eye opener for me, I would have never guessed that such a little amount of a food would satisfy me.
This morning I had Atkins Morning start Cereal.....2/3 a cup of cereal is about enough to cover the bottom of the bowl. But it was just enough to satisfy, I really didnt need any more.
This is the first time I have eated this cereal, I well use a keto stick and if I am still purple I will keep it, if its not purple I will ditch it.

Medical supervised water fasts are different from individuals who try fasting on their own, without their doctor’s supervision, with hopes of losing weight. Fasting is not a lifestyle, it may provide excellent results and improve chronic illnesses, but part of the medical supervision aspect is that these individuals learn to eat properly after they lose the weight. Self-imposed fastings do not incorporate this component and do not teach a way of eating that can be followed as a lifestyle that will allow them to maintain their weight. Hope that clears things up.

I am in the same boat as Babykinz, although my stall has only been since April. 5 weeks ago I began a very vigorous workout routine, 6 days a week-30 min hard on the elliptical (170rpm) and 30 mins incline 4 mph on treadmill, lots of crunches, stretching and some weights. I actually gained 8lbs in the 1st 2 weeks of workout. Then lost it, only to gain 4lbs again!!! I use fitday. I eat lots of veggies, keep my carbs at around 25. My calories at around 1500. My K-sticks are dark pink-purple. But I am sooooo discouraged!!! I feel like I need to go back to the old low fat, low calorie diet.
I just want to scream! Why is it that I can kill myself at the gym, eat right and not lose a pound??

p.s. I drink about 100oz of water /day
Rarely any frankenfoods

Can you clarify, have you lost inches and not lost weight? Is your complaint that you have not lost weight despite losing inches and being in ketosis?

I have not lost weight nor inches since April, well 1/2 inch in that time.
The 1st 30 lbs were very easy. But nothing since. The only difference I see since working out is that the flab that still exists is a bit less jiggly, but no smaller.

I do believe this is progress, although it is not as fast as you'd like it to be your cloths must be fitting you differently. Less jiggle in your wiggle! This is great.

Is it possible that something might be slowing your weight loss, such as thyroid, yeast or hormonal issues?

Would you please go up to search and put in my sc: nonstickpam107, and look for a thread titled: "Thyroid Tests Are Normal? Are You Sure?"

I have subclinical Hashimoto's hypothyroidism (as so MANY have), and my "normal" numbers are: TSH of .45 with a FT4 and FT3 of at LEAST midway of normal ranges.

If your doc ONLY did a TSH, your pituitary was just checked, congratulations. But that doesn't tell you what your thyroid hormone levels are. Oh, and a new range is being suggested for thyroid anyway, that would be .45-3.0, and getting the actual T4 and T3 hormone levels checked and you don't know if you have autoimmune hypothyroidism unless you've had the anti-TPO levels taken.

Just a suggestion.

Pam
