I don't feel well

I have been on Atkins Induction for a month with about a 5 pound weight loss. Last Monday evening, I weakened and ate an ice cream sundae. I paid for it the next morning at 5:13 am. I'm still feeling the effects of it and it's now Wednesday. My stomach hurts, I'm having heartburn, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, sleeplessness at night / frequent naps during the day and no appetite. All this from one sundae! I haven't eaten sugar for a month until last Monday, but I am using Splenda. I've been trying to get off that too. I am eating meat and vegies, vitamins too, but it feels like I'm losing energy. What's wrong, besides eating the ice cream? I'm too tired to exercise now. I feel like crud...

I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well but there may be a few things going on and I think I can help.

I suggest you visit the Atkins website and search candida or yeast. You may need to avoid foods that promote yeast overgrowth (cheese, mushrooms, vinegar, alcohol...) and use acidophilus as a supplement.

You may also want to eat 6 small meals/day to help you maintain energy levels.

Why not post a list of the foods you are eating, it will help me give you more specific advice. You should be taking a multi-vitamin and essential oils.

Please let me know if are you taking any medications, how much exercise you are doing and anything else that may help give a better picture of your lifestyle.

Thanks for replying.

I am eating more cheese than I ever have before. It's a daily thing. My vegies consist of iceburg lettuce daily, radishes and celery from time to time. I start the day with bacon or sausage, sometimes flax cereal and an egg. A hunk of meat and a salad is lunch and the same for dinner. I am enjoying a half of an avocado several times a week, too. Mushrooms are a favorite of mine, but I don't eat them now.

I am taking One a Day multi-viatmin for women and it does have iron. No essential oils perse', unless you mean canola and olive oil which I do use, just not daily.

I'm not taking any meds and I don't exercise regularly. I started to for the first 2 weeks, but my energy started getting lower and lower. The last time, years ago, when I dieted, my energy level was low. I was going to the YMCA to exercise and stopped because I didn't have the "oomph" like I did before.

I am making an appt. with my doctor soon to have some blood tests run. I was always iron deficient and anaemic when I was a kid. Maybe I still am...? I hope you've got some insight on this.

I can only relate my experiences to you. I don't feel well on induction either. At 20 carbs or less I get the typical induction yucky feeling which passes in about a week. I still don't feel good after that period. I feel tired and lack energy. When moving to OWL and adding back carbs ( in the form of green vegetables first) I start to feel better. At 30 carbs/day I start to feel good again. All of our bodies are different. If you are exercising alot you may want to move onto OWL. Adding an extra serving of green beans at night and an extra portion of spinach for lunch may change your energy level.

It sure helped mine.

Hope this helps.

I'm not exercising a lot because of lack of energy to do so. I am feeling better today though. I got my bicycle out and dusted off and plan to go for a ride today. I like the extra green beans and spinach idea. Hey, if spinach worked for Popeye, maybe me too?

Thanks for your concern lkmjbc3. Maybe I need to increase my carbs. I have been on Induction for a month now...

Why do you eat iceberg lettuce? I thought that was one lettuce, that Dr A said was worthless. There are so many really green lettuces in the store. My question to myself each week is which one to choose. But I never buy iceberg.

MaryMary...maybe I just like the taste of worthless lettuce, I don't know. I do eat other lettuce too, if it's not bitter.

AN, nevermind.
