atkins advantage bars

I have tried a couple of these as a treat every now and then and when reading the labels I noticed that the bars have little fibre in them. Other lc bars that I have tried have like 7-8 g of fiber. Now the atkins bars do not bloat me or make my stomach gurgle like the others. Could it be because of the low fibre? or is it just the sugar alcohols that do that?

P.S Could you send a recommendation for me, to make them a little crunchy? I find them a little dense with no crunch.

thanks

Try the Apple BREAKFAST BARS by Atkins. Much fewer carbs. I count all carbs except fiber so the regular Atkins bars are way too high in carbs for me, they are like brithday cake, a rare treat. Atkins Breakfast Bars are lower in carbs, I like the Apple and it has crunch (the Cinnamon does not). You might want to try them - yummy.

Is there any amount of these that are ok for induction? For example, could have have 1/3 of one, just as a quick morning munch? A couple of bites of one of these sweet things is enough to tide me over.

Cangirl,
Different people respond to ingredients in different ways, but that could be a possibility on your individual response. And yes, I will put in your recommendation!

But, try Xanthra's suggestion for the crunch and lower carbs.

Wendy,
The morning start bars are labeled as being appropriate for induction. This is based on a number of factors including the number of net grams per serving. People have different perceptions of what is 'sweet'. If you have your cravings under control, then it would be a great choice for you on the go to hold you over in the morning!

I meant the Advantage Bars (like Choc Decadence). I should have specified.

Thanks for clarifying,
The Advantage bars are also labeled as appropriate for Induction. Feel free to eat them during Induction as long as you continue to lose weight. It is fine to hold you over until you have time to eat whole, unprocessed foods.

Just as a side note I have had one half of an advanage bar almost everyday since I started. It is usually my after dinner dessert...unless I'm having home made chesse cake...fruit of some other lc dessert.

BTW they have never bothered my stomach or stalled my weight loss...and I think they have kept me on track.

I have never tried the Atkins Bars, I'm not sure what's in them-are they safe during pregnancy?

I would say it is the fiber in the bars that you are reating to. If the Atkins bars are satisfying and do not cause you distress than I suggest you continue with them.

If you need crunch, why not snack on celery with cream cheese or veggie sticks and guacamole...Try visiting the Atkins website for more creative ideas,www.atkins.com.

PRODUCTS FOR LONG TERM INDUCTEES

It would really be such a wonderful idea to have a variety of those bars ['breakfast' and the others] for inductees because many of us stay on it for very long periods of time, even years on some level of it, and are the most deprived. I myself rarely went off of 'basic' induction when doing extreme atkins through the years, and now can't even moreso, and we're the ones who need them the most. Those in OWL, pre-maintenance, and of course maintenance have all the other things to turn to and add gradually to their diets, but we have nothing, and I, for one, can only WONDER how I'm going to endure such total restriction for the rest of my life, which I'm trying not to even think ahead about because it's just too overwhelming a thought, and trying to live one day at a time with what I have to deal with even now at the onset...

Those sure would help and other forms of your products that could be cut down to the BONE for 'US' in INDUCTION as well. As I said in another post [about packaging & marketing] I wouldn't even mind sacrifices in taste because our food senses encompass so much more; texture and so many other nuances, including mere 'sweetness' [BUT... done with a LIQUID sweetner for the bars and the other products, which wouldn't have to include those dextroses and maltodextrins that have to be in the powdered forms to preserve it, maintaining it's bulk consistancy in the packets, and for packaging, etc.].

Before my sugar situation became more evident starting throughout this past 6 months, my fiancee DID get me some boxes of your various breakfast bars [forgot about those till now] to help and I remember really liking them but there was some reason I didn't continue, and I'm SURE that it must have been the ingredients that I was hesitant about.... certinly not the taste, because I loved them AND the crunchy, meaty texture [which are my favorite kind of substance, and which I DO now remember about them], and I remember being upset that I didn't feel completely safe and couldn't continue with them even BEFORE I eased into induction as I can't even now or probably ever will be able to in their present state, even the ones claimed to be allowed on induction.

[And no, when it comes to things like that..... celery and cream cheese will NEVER be substitutes for 'long term' or lifetime kiddies like myself lol.... those 'treats' are totally different animals, and we all know that ....especially when it's such severe 'long term'. *smile* Two weeks of induction or a little longer is one thing, but we can tolerate only celery, raw vegetable sticks and pork rinds and find them a satisfying snack crunch .....for just so long]

(It was the 'Advantage' bars that I used to have occasionally throughout the years, that I mentioned in my other post. Totally forgot about the somewhat recent 'breakfast' bars that he got me because they appeared to him to be more 'health' oriented and more fiber 'looking' and textured he said afterwards, when he first tested them in the store for me and surprised me with them, knowing I've always been an Atkins adict all my life. lol).

MAMZELLE, perhaps it was the maltitol in some of the breakfast bars that turned you off them. I can only eat the blueberry and cinnamon bun bars as they're the only flavors that don't have sugar alcohols. The apple, strawberry and chocolate flavors all have maltitol.

Linda

Oh thank you, Linda, that's good to know. I'll definitly keep that information in case I can ever indulge some day, it will save me a phone call to find out the various ingredients beforehand, though by then who knows.... things always change, and maybe there will be bars for us lowly inductees by then, and ones we can eat ALL of, not just halves and thirds. lol

Very possibly WAS the Manitol, though I wouldn't remember that far back, but yes, that certainly would have disuaded me. Isn't it odd though, that it's in some flavors and not others. Perhaps the consistancy and textures of the bars are of a different nature and the manitol is needed more for preparation or preservative purposes.

But nevertheless.... it's great having those things out there for those who CAN indulge, considering the choices of products in the REAL world, which are so much worse. Boy, do I remember THOSE days, now at least there's a lesser of evils. Thanks again.

Well, two of the four Morning Start bars with maltitol have those crunchy things and the other two are chocolate. Not sure if they have crunchies or not. Maybe they needed the sugar alcohols for the crunchies for some reason and also to make the chocolate chips.

I always keep one of those bars in my purse, in a ziploc bag, in case I'm out on the road or somewhere where I can't get something low carb to eat right then. I'll just break off a little piece and that curbs my hunger quite nicely. I have found that they're not a great idea straight from my purse in the Houston heat though. They become very soft and mushy. The blueberry ones remind me of fig newtons. None of them taste great, but they are very satisfying and filling. I've rarely eaten a whole bar at once, especially without a glass of water handy, LOL.

Linda [DISCLAIMER for others.... don't read with cravings. lol]

My mouth is watering. I'd settle for one of my homemade type giant raisen bran muffins still sitting in the freezer right now.... about a dozen of them from when I was eating things like that not too long ago, when my fiancee kept sending them from Ca. because they're the best I've ever tasted and can't find them that good which is ODD for NYC.... and with other things also all sitting there freezing to death and I can't touch them. It's killing me.

Nothing like a toasted buttered bran muffin with coffee in the morning or even a HALF of garlic or onion toasted bagel oozing with butter. I used to need my bran muffin in the morning even when on Atkins right after inductions. Didn't care lol It was something to get out of bed for, otherwise I couldn't.... and except for the sugar, they're very healthy. I also have sugar free bran muffins in there which I tried before induction but they don't compare. I was eating THOSE months ago, but just wanted to 'real thing' in the freezer too for emergencies lol

I have things still over the house from before that I can't touch now, and strangly, they're not tempting me [except for the big bran muffins]. I usually don't keep ANYTHING around, but this sugar thing caught me by surprise and even though I never ate sugar products anyway, the other stuff is cans of progresso and cambell's 'thick & hearty' pea soups [something like that...I bought out the store with those, my favorites] and others too and everything you can imagine and can't have any of it. But I always ate more or less like this anyway but had to have my thick soups, know how to make them but too lazy, except for chicken soup which requires less work and which I do keep making now. Nice to have a can to just open. :-( The can-opening days are over.

Sheeeeesh, this all got me so hungry that I finally stopped everything i'm doing and went to heat up breakfast after two in the afternoon, my chicken and broccoli from last night lol
