Supplements to avoid cravings ???

What kind of supplements should I take to avoid chocolate cravings ???

I heard magnesium would help, but I don't want to spend $$$ if it won't work. If it does, what kind of dosage should I take ???

The best way to avoid craving is to make sure you are full. Many people crave because they are starting to get hungry or because blood sugar is low. Try identifying when you start to crave and eat something filling (chicken salad, a hamburger) 30 minutes before your craving starts.

Supplements should be specific to the reason for the craving. If your craving is triggered by blood sugar, chromuim or vanadium may help.

HCA an ingredient in Atkins Dieters Advantage is a fiber that helps keep you from craving because it helps keep you full.

L-Glutamine is another supplement that can control cravings to eat sweets /sugar.

Good luck!

Hi Catheryn,
The advice given applied to cravings that may occur, in general, when blood sugar is low and L-Glutamine was suggested as supplement that may help control cravings to eat sweets /sugar.

But taking a supplement will not always help you to avoid chocolate cravings. When you crave chocolate specifically or any other treat that may impede your weight loss, the best advice is to develop techniques that will distract you from the craving.

Take a walk, make a phone call, start an activity away from the kitchen... Get your mind off what you are craving, and the craving will pass without you giving in to temptation.

Hope this helps clarify your question. Good luck!

Why not add some steak to those eggs or eat a different breakfast like lox and cream cheese or whitefish salad and avocado or any fish?

Have you tried thinly sliced ham and cream cheese or any meat ie, turkey with cheese?

There are lots of recipes floating around, you can also search the takins website.

I love eggs and do add other things to my omlets or scrambled eggs, but the bite of chocolate finishes it up!
BTW steak has NEVER filled me up before atkins or after.........ketosis or not......its so yummy the only problem is I get bored cutting it up!

I am learning when cravings hit me, I grab water first. Sometimes that helps cause I feel full. If the feeling comes back, I busy myself or grab a stick of Sugarfree gum.
I have had an awful month of cravings. Last month was a breeze, this month I am even skipping a TOM, and I thought that after doing this WOL for over a year my body would regulate. I used to be regular before Atkins, but not anymore!

Dream it..... 'instead'

Strangest thing, I hung up from a phone conversation where I mentioned a dream to a friend of my eating one of my top of the list treasures... delicious dark semi-sweet chocolate in a nap TODAY and this was the first thread I saw right after the call.

I never dream about foods, this is the first time and it was a long one and very involved like a film about MY eating the chocolates [little wrapped square ones the size of sugar cubes, which I've never even seen anywhere] and with many other people involved in the complicated suspense script revolving around the chocolates.

I awoke with the complete sense and gratification of having really eaten them, and was very satisfied. Hmmm guess a dream hypnotist could program us to eat in our sleep. Don't laugh, we can even program OURSELVES to dream anything we want, I know how and have many times and it works, but forgot all about being able to do that, and certainly wasn't even THINKING about chocolate.

Anyway, the way you need chocolate after your eggs, I need peanut butter after 'everything' and it's been tough. And I, just like you, am NOT satisfied after bacon & eggs, nomatter WHAT I put in them. Just something about them and I've even tried MORE eggs mixed in and it still doesn't fill me up, nor does cooking them in the bacon grease instead of butter [which I've always done] nor anything else, nor does adding sour cream nor mayo lol nor olive oil, nor does different varieties of meats, cheeses, vegs, etc., mixed in do it for me. There's just not enough substance in the eggs themselves, nor do I have the energy or patience to fuss like that in the morning to even want to HAVE to do that for any food to make it filling. lol

I feel like I need a meal afterwards, unlike anything else that I eat and am so full from other meals and rarely even need them in the first place, but somehow eggs go in and right out [satisfaction-wise] without making any stops along the way. It's like I've had nothing. I now alternate with tuna salad, sardines, even egg salad with lots of celery & seasonings, or leftovers... and anything else for breakfast, and slowed down a lot on the pan-cooked eggs.

PS..... If EGGS were in the dream too, and then I awoke seeing this thread first thing, as I did.... I would have flipped out altogether.

[and.... thanks again Catheryn]
