hello from Ireland

I weigh 196 pounds and have failed to lose weight on calorie controlled plans, weightwatchers etc though I have followed the diets perfectly. I would like to hear from anyone who has successfully lost weight on a low card diet after having failed to lose it on other diet plans. I really need some encouragement to begin the low carb diet as I have been on so many diets before. Help!

Hi Eibhlin!!! I think I failed on almost every diet known to man!!!! You should really give it a try!!!! I lost almost 90 lbs last year!!

(I even did Atkins in Ireland last year when I was visiting my inlaws and it was possible to do it even in restaurants - just skip the spuds!)

If you have not had any success on any other diet (I mean no weight loss at all- not losing weight and then regaining it) then you may be metabolically resistant.

I advise you to first start with Induction where you will limit your carbohydrate intake to 20 grams of Net Carbs per day. If you do not experience weight loss, the fat fast may be an appropriate next step for you.

More information about these phases of the Atkins Nutritional Approach can be found in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution or on our website, www.atkins.com. For support and advice from other low carbers, post your questions in the Low Carb Lobby. If you have specific questions about this approach to eating, then feel free to post in this bulletin board.

Good luck!

Hi Eibhlin!

I am that person. I've always been overweight, and even as a child was put on low-calorie diets (1200) without any response.

If I were to eat a Weight Watchers style diet, I would surely gain weight.

The only way I maintained a lower weight was to eat only one meal a day, low calorie.

For me, this is the only way of eating that works for me that involves actual eating!

Hi, Eibhlin.

You can do this diet and you won't be hungry. All of that lovely bacon and eggs, steak, etc. Just don't have any spuds. Lots of nice green vegetables with that steak instead.

I weighed 250lbs a couple of years ago. I was with some folks who were setdancing and wanted me to try it. I was too pooped out. After that, I went on the Atkins and went down to 208. I fell off this spring due to lots of reasons, one of them being prednisone (made me eat like a horse).

But it really was amazing. I'd get up and weigh myself and see a few more pounds gone. It was crazy!!! I'd weigh myself again and make sure I wasn't seeing things. That is the truth.

Just read the labels when you shop and try not to rely on those prepackaged bars, etc. I noticed that I plateaued when I ate those things. Lots of people don't have a problem with them but I did.

You can also have a little whiskey every now and then (not bad, eh?). Pour it into your coffee or tea and top it off with some lovely whipped cream.

This sounds crazy but it really is a good diet to go on. You won't be hungry. Just read your labels very carefully...Take care.
