Your before and after photos make me think YOU should be hosting this board!!! Congratulations!!

I really, really would love for you to post your menu if you could take the time. The menu as you were really losing (I would guess on Induction). I don't always have that bar at night but just protein and fat do NOT stave off the hypo attacks so I use them. I used to have to eat Zone bars but now I can eat an Atkins one (much less carbs).

Anyway, I'd love to see your menu. thanks!

I can't resist. Your hubby is in the Marines... I hope he is not middle east bound! The marines have a cool base in Baden Baden Germany. My friends dad is a Major. Truly the Marines have the most lavish dress uniforms! The gold swords are awe inspiring.

I am making another attempt tomorrow at 6 small meals. I will just tell my four young children to chill while I eat (tee hee).

pinponting your low

You have made very important identifications in preventing your lows. You mention that you get low at 2 PM and in the middle of the night.

I suggest you eat a snack at about 1:30 and another before bedtime. These snacks should contain small amounts of carbs, ie almond butter, guacamole, and not solely come from meat/protein. This will help prevent you from experiencing these symptoms.

Let me know how this works for you.

AN

Thanks again for following up this rather long thread. I have always just grabbed a protein snack afternoon and night. It is such a little thing but with you help it turns out to be a very big thing to my blood sugar. Adding fat..... who knew? Okay, you did and so did Dr. Atkins. I need to move back to California so avacados are available!!!

I know low carbing is my lifestyle and now I am fine tuning it to finish my weight loss. I will post in a week or so to relate to others how the hypoglycemia is going. I never had it eating junk.... just all that fat (yikes!!)

thanks again.

Finally, and explanation!

I just started induction a couple of days ago and I had a hypoglycemic crash this morning. As you said, I went right for the orange juice not even realizing why, it just seemed that my body was telling me to do it NOW. Then I frantically grabbed some cookies and skittles and felt a million times better. Obviously this isn't good, but now I'm finding out why and trying to figure out how to adjust.

Xan,
I would try for 2 weeks:
-eliminating all caffeine
-eliminating all sweeteners
-carb levels re-induction
-three meals with three snacks; largest right before bed
-keeping a food journal to see what triggers attacks
-keeping a very regular sleep schedule

I am never hypoglycemic when I eat whatever junk I want. That is because the deadly cycle of just eating and eating stave off the hypo. Very bad way to live. I never knew I was hypo until Atkins. I so appreciate your personal insight.... it does make me think that I go too low on the carbs. Gee, could that be part of the personality flaws I need to work on!

I will try eating like you said, the protein and fat, BEFORE I am shaking like a leaf. It is so scary because I never have it unless my carbs are low.

Thanks again. You know, starvation was so much easier!!! Okay, just kidding. Easier but very unhealthy.
Another hypo-glycemic onboard Atkins has honestly saved me from that carb craving sustenance of a life. I still miss my binges and still endulge once in a while But then I pay for it big time when the sugars hit

Tarrah, this is totally OT (although this thread is helping me to see that I may have been dealing with a little hypoglycemia before Atkins, too), but I checked out your baby pics. I had to; I used to date a Kyle Brown in HS. Yours is cuter than mine was, though!
