Hi everyone I'm in for this month! My goal is to say goodbye the to 200's. I've been on program for almost 3 weeks. I didn't weight myself at the start..not sure why I waited a week but I'm down 7 lbs so far. I'll weigh in each Sunday, I'm trying not to obsess over the scale. I am happy to report I have a lot more energy. I took my 4 yr old niece and 6 yr old nephew swimming today for 5 hours and I'm still awake!

Congrats Bonny!! The 150s must feel great!

Kizz I am so sorry for your losses. (((hugs))))

It's going to be a beautiful day today! It helps that I only have to work 1/2 a day today and then off tomorrow.

Everyone at work is all giddy about the foods they will be partaking in tomorrow. I find it interesting that I don't have that interest anymore! I will be having my steak drizzled in butter---I'm good!! I don't need any of that other crap...I wouldn't have room for it anyways! It's funny how I used to be able to eat 8 oz of steak PLUS a salad, potato, appetizer, and dessert!! Now, the 8 oz steak is MORE than enough! I will be saving a lot of money not having to buy all the extras. This WOE is good for my body. Good for my wallet!!

Morning everyone!!!

It's great to see everyone so motivated!
Lilac- so what is the best way to make pulled pork, do you think?
Kendra Kizz - Looks like you are on a great start with your menus. As you allow yourself LC ice cream for a treat and can stay on plan, I do the same with light beer and wine. I DO drink too much wine, though, and I have to cut back in order to get to my goal. sigh.
Kimber- it is so nice of you to think of each person individually.

In three days I'll be in Maine!

DQ - I don't know about the best, but I will say that it was my boss's pulled pork that even got me to eat pork (outside of bacon). For most of my adult life, I had an aversion to pork. His pulled pork saved me from myself!

His dry rub includes paprika, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, sea salt, garlic powder, and thyme, after rubbing the pork shoulder down with olive oil. You slow cook the pork (fat layer up) on a bed of diced onions with a little bit of water, liquid smoke, and beer. 7 hours on low. Meat shreds so easy and is so tender.

A very good morning to you all!

Kizz, I am sorry and you are correct. With regards to your family you simply did what you had to do. I was not there and am not judging your acts. Perhaps I was unclear, but the courage I was speaking of was not related to what you did with your family; the courage I am speaking of is your courage to return here, after a year, and start over. It is the courage of doing something for yourself right now.

I spent years being in denial of my problems. I did not have the courage until last month to see where I was, and do something about it, take proper care of my body and mind, and change my life. You are now changing your life, and for that, I salute you and wish you well.

I had a ham and cheddar omelet rather late this morning so I did not think to bring lunch to work. Two o'clock comes and I find that I am ravenous and the cafe downstairs is already closed. I went to my boss's office and jokingly asked if he had anything to eat. My boss LOVES to eat and although he brings a large lunch bag every day, it's usually all eaten before noon. Imagine my surprise when he takes out a large container of grilled salmon on a bed of baby spinach. I asked him why he didn't eat it.

"Because I had lasagna for lunch."

Better believe I begged it off of him.

Mthergoos: Went to see my gorgeous doctor today but first had to give him a hard time about driving a Porsche Cayman. OMG. I asked if he was a snob to American cars and he went on about GM recalls so I had no argument on that one but again, I just love giving him a hard time cause it makes him smile which of course makes me "smile"

I'm so gosh darn healthy it's incredible. Numbers were absolutely optimal.
He actually said they couldn't be any better had he written them himself. So I got no excuse for nothing!! He shrugged his shoulders when I told him the leg cramps come and go???? Anyway, I was so happy to hear such good news
although I would've been surprised to hear otherwise. EVERYTHING is perfect, thyroid, potassium... absolutely everything. Thank the dear Lord.

Sorry for chuckling. You're just very descriptive with your wording and I got a visual!!!

Lasagna: 9 months ago, I would have done EXACTLY the same thing. Glad it worked out for both of you!! Sorry about the cramps and I NEVER had a leg cramp in my life and he had no explanation for them? Even Atkins suggested it would be potassium or magnesium levels being too low but that's not my problem so where do you go with that??? Maybe when I start adding low carb fruits in the fall it may help???

Bonny Jean, that makes me think of what one of my customers told me yesterday. He commented that I needed to stop losing weight because I was getting too skinny and he was getting worried about me (NOT true, there's plenty of fat left on my body, but not the point of my story), and then he told me that I should start eating fruit so that my PH levels would stay right. My PH Levels????? I'm still trying to figure out what the heck he was talking about!

03 July// Pulled Pork

Not much to report; to the new folks. As you've seen, many a sympathetic ear to listen & shoulders to cry on.
Have been doing kettlebells at least 2x week. They are seriously kicking my butt.
And I managed to get back into the pool after what seems like forever
Those pulled pork recipes look great, now to get some pork butt!
Off to see the sadist tomorrow aka dental hygienist. No offense to those in the crowd who might be earning their $$$$ in this profession but I swear they aren't happy until they see blood
And offer up the complimentary floss & brush lecture
Bonny-Jean: congrats on the clean bill of health. So, when's the 'next' exam?

Hi Everyone - I added some salsa to my meals, 1 carb per tablespoon so I usually have 2 carbs Also ran to burger king for the kiddos yesterday and had a bunless whopper with cheese (plain) so anyways I got nervous and jumped on the scale. I am down 2 more lbs and that was at night. I will see how it goes. Tomorrow we aren't doing anything so I'll eat the norm, eggs, cheese and meat. I think I'll make chicken breast with mushroom cream sauce (mushrooms, butter and heavy cream).

WTG on the losses and good health report!

CPG - I love my dental hygienist. My family has been going to the same dentist for over 10 years. I always say that practice is like family, only less dysfunctional. The last time I saw the hygienist, she was poking around a sensitive tooth - like she always does - and I was crabby and told her that if she poked it one more time, I was going to punch her in the face. Without skipping a beat, she says to me, "Yeah right, that seems smart - threatening someone with a whole tray of sharp objects. Shaddup." Yes, they really ARE like family.

Now, the dentist himself is another story. He's got a bit of a heavy hand and I was unfortunate to need a cavity filled this last go round. Clearly with these tattoos, I am not scared of needles, but when he shoots that Novocaine in, he wiggles the needle around FOREVER. That has got to be the most uncomfortable feeling EVER.

As for my menu, I'm winging it mostly. Got 4 1/2 lb pub burgers ready to go. I am pretty sure my in-laws will have a steak for me at the cookout tomorrow. Call me weird, but I have never been one for all the carby side dishes of bbq's. I don't like corn on the cob, potato salad, baked beans, or any of that kind of stuff. Even when not specifically low-carb dieting, it's the meat I pile onto my plate.

Tomorrow is my littlest fur-baby's 4th birthday - yes, she was born on the 4th of July. Normally, I do NOT celebrate my dogs' birthdays, but she is special. She has an autoimmune disease called Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, and we have almost lost her twice now. Her immune system attacks and kills her red blood cells, and without red blood cells, your organs cannot get oxygen. Scary stuff. Her first relapse was June of 2012 and her second one was August of 2013. Both of them required 4 blood transfusions each, extended stays at the specialty animal hospital, a whole lot of money (even with DH's substantial discounts), and a lifetime of immune-suppressing medications. She came around so well after the first relapse and was so young that we weaned her off the meds that time, but now the vet says she will have to stay on them forever. Anyway, she turns 4 tomorrow and it's a big deal. I went to the pet store and got all sorts of toys, treats, a new collar, some fancy schmancy shampoo, and even a Happy Birthday bow for her hair. to my baby girl!

These are the 2 ankle-biters in the family that are like my children. The birthday girl is the one yawning.
