Flax meal causing bleeding?
Hi all, (although gentlemen might feel like this is TMI, you could tell your lady friends)
Someone recently told me that too much flax meal can cause problems with hormone balance and in some cases (eg/where there is PCOS) it can be a cause of breakthrough bleeding. Anyone else heard this? It also applies to soy products although there's not too many of them on induction...
I love the OMM and have also had bad problems with my cycle on Atkins, so I wonder if I am affected. Can anyone shed some light on this? TIA!
Flax contains phytoestrogens, which mimic the estrogen in our bodies. Honestly, the jury is still out on whether or not it actually effects hormone balance all that much. But it IS true that too much of anything isn't good. The best thing to try is eliminating it for a while to see if your cycles regulate, then reintroducing it and watching for similar results. If nothing happens, you know it's not the flax.
