Newbie saying hello!

Hi everyone!

I'm here again and coming out of the woodwork after lurking a while. I did Atkins back in 2012 and lost weight and felt GREAT...maintained until about August 2013, and since then have veered off-course eating too much sugar and alcohol and while my clothes still (mostly) fit, I feel awful. My cognitive functioning and energy levels are so much better when my WOE is low-carb...and I feel and look better too.

So I'm here for ideas and accountability and tips on how to do Induction the right way this time around. It's much harder because now I'm living with my S.O., who is a lot less dedicated to exercise and a lot more into drinking, mindless snacking, and carby foods.

I need a lot of help this time—I'm really discouraged and depressed that I "screwed up," and I think that mindset is self-sabotaging and keeping me from biting the bullet and starting Induction properly. Any help and support would be so, so appreciated.

Lots of love,

loradora

to the LC WOE Party, loradora & Manerna!

This is a wonderful place with amazing people who have been LCing for many years.

The first question I have is what version of Atkins are you doing -- each version has their own induction plan that share some similarities. For example, A '72 doesn't do net carbs -- we calculate actual carbs.

Anywho... wishing you both much success on your LC WOE journeys!!

I'm new too! Need newbie buddies!

Hi! I'm new also. I did Atkins with my mom as a kid (chubby kid) back in the 70's, but it's a whole new low carb world now! More doctors are on board, and with the internet, more sharing, more recipes, more support all around.

I'm starting today, and am hoping to lose 50". 50 lbs would be nice, but I'm going to focus more on inches than pounds, since I hope to be building some muscle back and sometimes with low carb you lose more inches than pounds.

I'm still figuring out what I need to do. Should I buy a book or is everything we need right here?

Welcome to all our Newbies! It's exciting to see everyone that's joining us! I would encourage you to join in one of the challenges, or find a daily thread that you can post on for accountability, encouragement, and support every day.

GliderGirl, I did Atkins back in the 70's with my mom too! I think you should definitely read the book, but I would encourage you to find a copy of Atkins 72, the original book that Dr. Atkins wrote. It will be the version that you are already familiar with, and, I personally, find it to be the most effective way to go.

Thank you Manerna! Be sure to get your fats in too. Butter, mayo, coconut oil, olive oil, whatever you're using for fats. I would focus more on the protein and fats and less on the veggies to get you started.

For my day one, I'm eating and drinking, but still seem to feel hungry and cravings. I just made some old fashioned fried sharp cheddar for a crunchy craving. I forgot how good this is!

I had a very little of coconut milk with chocolate sugar free flavoring added for a sweet craving. It tasted good, but upset my stomach and worked as a laxative. I'll keep it in mind for when I need it. :-p

Manerna, I sliced hard cheddar cheese, put it in a non-stick pan, turn the heat up really high. It will melt, then bubble, then turn brown and crunchy where it touches the pan. Then turn it over and brown on the other side.

Crunchy and yummy!

I have been living in USA for 10 years, in LA.
I used to cook everything from the scratch. Cooking is my hobby, but I do not know much about old fashioned American meals
