Morning All:

Sure has been a rough winter, eh. Everybody seems to have the blues and struggling with that darn scale. Soon we'll be able to get out more (some sooner than others) and we'll feel better both physically and mentally. Hang in there folks, it is coming!

Sometimes I wonder why we do the "Challenge" as it seems to bum so many out?? Maybe we should do a weekly weight in in March?? I don't know. Just hate to see so many discouraged. I'm 100% on plan and can't seem to knock off a pound a week so I feel your pain.

Well, good thing is it's not Monday anymore. Hope you have a great day.

Bonny Jean I know what you mean, I keep reading all over the board how a lot of people seem to be struggling....but its only coming to this challenge every day that has kept me going, I think I might have given up about a week ago....and every day when the scales don't do as they are told and I get discouraged my hubby keeps reminding me that I made a commitment to this February challenge so I have to keep going lol....so I decided I would see what I weigh at the end of Feb to see how worth it it all is, and I am sure then that I will decided to stick with it....but I do agree though that day to day weighing etc does get you down.....I wish I could be a once a week person lol.
You are right about the weather though, it isn't helping, we all need to get outside and do things.....that sun will soon be here, I don't know why this winter seems to be dragging on so long.

Arb34...I forgot to buy my battery for the scales as I think mine is going as well, but if it going to make me weigh more, I might stick with the fading battery lol.

February 1: 156.8 (squats/arm weights/crunches)
February 2: 158.4 (crunches)
February 3: 158.4 (squats/arm weights/crunches)
February 4: 157 (squats/crunches)
February 5: 157 (squats/crunches/arm weights-just deltoids and triceps...elbow is killing to much for bicep work, 90 minutes of shoveling snow)
February 6: 156.2 (finally a day of rest...not really, I need to shovel some more)
February 7: 156.2 (100!!! squats, arm weights, push ups, a lame plank)
February 8: 155.8 (105 squats, about 10 pushups, another lame plank)
February 9: 155.6 (110 squats, arm weights-focused on triceps)
February 10: 156.2 Sigh (Today is a rest day! No squats for me! Woot!)
February 11: 155.4 (130 squats/arm weights)
February 12: 154.4 (135 squats)
February 13: No w/i (140 squats/arm weights/push-ups)
February 14: 156 (rest day, but shoveled heavy snow for an hour) TOM
February 15: 154.4 (150 squats/arm weights) TOM
February 16: 154.2 (155 squats) TOM
February 17: 153.2 (160 squats/arm weights) TOM
February 18: 152.4 (rest day) TOM

February goals: Complete the 30 day squat challenge that I was crazy enough to join to with my crazy friend!

Figure out a planking/push-ups routine for my ab work.
Arm weight routine every other day (as tolerated). Damn tennis elbow is still with me.

Weight goal: 147...but to be honest, I will be thrilled to see anything in the 140s. I haven't seen the 140s since early 1998!

Shelly, please don't go MIA. Please stop beating yourself up! You've accomplished so much. You've just quit smoking. You're waiting for your medical appointment and from how you've been talking I'm sure that you're right that it's not you that your gain is some kind of medical issue. I know it's frustrating. Do not go sliding off the rails. You and I started way back in 2012 within a couple of weeks of each other. We joined the boards at almost the same day (and we have practically the same name...Gypsy's real name is Michelle)! You are a huge part of the heart of these boards.

Bonny-Jean, We call it a challenge group, but in reality its a life line. I know I've been struggling a lot this past winter but if it wasn't for this group, I would have thrown the towel in this past December. To see others struggle lets me know I'm not alone and to see others succeed, lets me know that I can get past this.

Shelly, I get needing time to yourself, but don't go for so long that we have to send out a search party!

Congrats to everyone losing!

I'm getting migraines so I'm constantly feeling nauseous. My issue now is that any form of meat, including eggs, isn't appealing right now. Breakfast ended up being a protein shake and half a muffin. I think my meals will be a protein shake and some veggie for now. I think I'm pms-ing or its the sudden change in temps effecting me, so this should be a short phase. But February might be another wasted month. On the plus side, I've basically been maintaining this same weight within a few lbs since the end of November. So this is a preview of what my maintenance is going to be like or my body is just messing with me and maintenance really won't be this easy.

Hi all (ps. My name is Pam if you all would rather call me that then PC)

Bulldog I am so sorry about those migraines. My son gets them. He can't hold anything down when he get ones. Hope you feel better.

Shelly stay we would miss you too much. I wish I could help.

Lily I haven't seen Wendy. She was on a different thread years back but I lost touch. I hope she is doing ok. I haven't been on in awhile either. Had another spinal surgery and am still recovering. Gained a lot of weight going from 139 to 172. UGH!!!!!! Not 100% all my fault when I had to take meds, but do blame me for most of it. Just upset and tired these days. While so glad you're back with me.

Try to get back, on track but this darn weather. Want warmth on my face and to be able to go out and walk the neighborhood. We got more snow again last night. Kids did go to school but had a 2 hour delay this am. I swear they are never going to let me get back into my routine. Anyway I am not going to weigh in until Friday. I know I will be up. Had ham and white bean soup this weekend. Very yummy and really not like eating cake or anything but still not on plan. Roaster chicken tonight though. Hope everybody has a great day.

Hello all, I just wanted to join in and say I've been reading your February Challenge since the beginning of the month and wanted to thank you all for being so honest in sharing your journeys. This is my first post on these boards, although I've been on here for a long time. I wanted you to know how it inspires me every day to read your successes and your challenges. I don't have a lot to lose, maybe another 10 pounds, and already lost 10 lbs doing Atkins but every weekend I go to visit my son in the US -- he plays hockey there -- the Cheezits and wine call my name....lol. I gain back the same 3 or 4 pounds and start again on Monday's. I ordered a "zoodler" or whatever it's called to make zucchini noodles after reading about it somewhere on these boards, and I LOVE it.... my daughter is making fun of me for how many things I've been putting through it. Anyway, I don't use a digital scale, but a decent one from Costco I bought years ago, so I can track the up and downs in pounds, just not in fractions of pounds. I wondered what kind of scales you all use and recommend? Anyway, sorry to ramble, but wanted to say even though you may think people are dropping like flies from your "Challenge", I'm probably not the only one who is joining along, just not publicly And to Shelly, quitting smoking is such a huge accomplishment on it's own, don't beat yourself up for not sticking totally to plan. You're only human. All the best to all of you.

The first time I hiked pikes peak I thought I was in good enough shape to do it. I figured I would be up and back the 26 miles in about 12 hours or so. I knew if worst came to worst I could have my wife meet me at the top because there is a road people who dont like to hike can take to see the world from 14,000 feet.

Well turns out I was not prepared I also really messed up my ankle to the point that I could go up but hopping down on rocks would not be an option. It took me 12 hours to get to the top. The lack of oxygen the last 1/3rd of the accent was insane so you literally walk at a turtles pace just to keep your breath. I did throw out my life line and got picked up by a very nervous wife who I now know cant drive next to cliffs without freaking out.

I cant think of a time up that mountain that I was not cursing, complaining, etc. But when I met the challenge, well 1/2 of it. I was happy that I was able to force my way through it. I knew I could have made it back down but I was not prepared for night hiking on the side of the mountain and permanently injuring my ankle so I was OK with that.

The next year I trained harder and was up and back down, running portions of it in less than 12 hours. I think it was 10. Then the next year I took my daughter and I believe it is one of those things she will always remember.

Anyway, my point is that a challenge is not a challenge unless it is hard. When things are hard people will struggle, bit** and complain. That is what should happen during a (month) challenge. If you complain to skinny people they will just look at your weird. If you complain to people who do other diets they will just try to get you to there side where you will soon learn they do the same thing. Instead you come here, complain away and stay in this for the distance because everyday you do this your still less fat than you were and learn more about your body, human nature, and forge friendships.

Stay strong, it gets better!

And now for my complaint. I packed a breakfast and lunch for work. I was asked to jump on the bus to escort some people to a Dr. Appt. I was told I would be back in 20 mins so I agreed. 2.5 hours later I returned to my office starving because I did not get my breakfast in. I will not make this mistake again! And all my work is now WAY behind to boot!

Hi Hockeymum, I did the same thing as you, I followed this group through their January Challenge and they inspired me so much in just reading through their daily posts that it made me join, so are you joining us.....I love Ontario by the way, we used to live in the hills of Mulmur.
Pam so glad to know your name lol, I could never remember how to spell the other one lol.
Well I should add that today I ate an atkins bar, this chocolate craving wouldn't go away so I caved....so if I stall again I only have myself to blame.
I made something tonight that I have never had before, stuffed peppers, they were stuffed with chicken, bacon, tomatoes and topped with cheese, I thought I had died and gone to heaven lol.

James....loved what you wrote about the challenge...especially the bit I just pasted below, thanks for writing that....it all helps......

Oh, no, no. I meant the daily weighing in part. I totally agree with the daily rapport with each other. I just meant the daily jump on the scale seems to really affect some and only suggested that "some" maybe do it once a week but not that they shouldn't check in daily. I would be lost without this thread as you know, I love to chat!!! I just feel so bad when I see others so upset they just want to quit!! Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest we stop the challenge in itself. Not at all!

Hey Guys, I started Atkins on Friday. I have never done low carb before but I managed to lose 40 lbs doing low calorie. It took me almost a year because I could never get past the cravings so I kept falling into old habits. i weighed in at 249.8 last Friday and this morning I weighed in at 243.2 so that is a 6.6 loss in 4 days. My official weigh in day will be on Friday. I have also never been a part of a forum so I am excited about this possibility too!!

Thanks for the welcome Sandy and Gypsy. Sandy, I was born in Wales and my family (except my Mum and Dad) all still live somewhere in the British Isles. I'm 5'3 and a bit and 54, have always been in pretty decent shape, but hate exercising. I've always said I'd rather starve, so that's why I like Atkins so much, I can eat as much as I want. I notice a lot of comments about the Atkins bars, are they really bad for you or what? I keep them in my home office and use them for a quick lunch some days, They also fill my chocolate fix somewhat, and don't even get me started on the Atkins Indulge chocolate covered peanuts.... I could eat bags full. I know it's not healthy so I try to only have them in moderation. I'd like to lose about 15 more pounds and everyone seems to say that with menopause and not having much to lose, it's going to be tough. I just love seeing your drops every morning when you check in, it really keeps me motivated.

Bonny Jean....sorry...I knew you weren't suggesting giving up the monthly challenge, it was probably my fault because I rambled on about how cool it was and how I need it lol....I think maybe I made it sound like it was going to be given up....totally my fault because I ramble on and on and on lol....so my fault it got taken the wrong way.....I am with you on the weighing daily though, I just wish I had the strength to give it up lol, but of course I don't, I am now addicted.....anyway sorry about that....now I feel bad because it made you feel a bit bad....honestly! me and my rambles lol.

Welcome Prely, you are doing really well losing 6.6 lbs, downwards you go.....

Hockeymom...I am new here so not really sure about the atkins bars, I think I have read that they stall a lot of people, I will know in the morning what they do to me and I don't think it will be good lol....but I still think I did the right thing rather than go and buy a regular chocolate bar as the chocolate craving was really killing me for some reason, so for me it will just be for emergencies....unless of course I lose a pound tomorrow and then I might have another one lol.....Have you started a journal as I found it really helps, if you do I will stop by and say hi....yes I hate exercising as well...and don't intend to start lol.

Hello! Welcome to our new folks! Glad to have you with us!

Hugs to Shelly! I feel your pain! You've been staying on track for so long while you were able to quit smoking. You certainly have a lot to be proud of! Weight gain is certainly common for folks who quit smoking. I think you've had amazing success so far this year! Keep your chin up and be proud of yourself! You're already a hot mama!! Those last few pounds will come off in time!

I struggled a bit today. I even got a little panicky over my lack of carbs and felt like I needed a donut or cookie to survive. Instead I had a small piece of low carb toast with natural peanut butter and I avoided disaster. My problem lately is giving into temptation so I am trying to stay strong and stick with it. I need to get this holiday weight off!!

Hugs to all our fellow challengers! I agree this thread is more of a support system than a challenge for me. I'm trying not to obsess about the scale as a bad day on the scale has often led to bad food decisions lately. I'm trying to just focus on eating well and hope that my clothes start fitting better! I hope everyone has a great night!

I wish I had the willpower to not weigh myself every morning. It is so automatic to me. I get up, pee, and put the scale on the floor and weigh in! I am not even fully awake when I do this!!!

Oh hon, no worries at all. My comment had nothing to do with what you said, at all!! Honestly. All I was saying or suggesting was that maybe the folks that get absolutely CRUSHED by checking that scale each day should just pop in each day and let us know how they're doing without any scale business. Sometimes my brain is very eloquent but then my fingers type quite the opposite?? I just wanted to let BulldogMom know that I wasn't suggesting an end to the challenge at all. I love talking to everyone and see how they're doing. I know I never would have made it so long without these dear friends. I just feel SO BAD for the ones that get so hurt and frustrated weighing every day.
It breaks my heart to see how Shelly is suffering. Hence, the suggestion. I hope y'all understand what I'm trying to say???

Oh Lord, ain't it the truth, eh!! I'm so the same way, exact same routine, actually. LOL. I'm getting a little OCD about that darn machine. It's all good if you can just take it easy on yourself on the up days. It's rarely kind but I just can't walk past it!

OMG.....zzzzzzz.....I just read almost 10 pages since I last posted. I think it's taken me all day. LOL (i'm at work) not that it's boring but you all are so chatty it's great.

On that note. Sorry for all the deaths in the family's. It's always hard regardless if its a pet or friend/family member. Hugs to you all. (I've lost 2 dogs within 4 months of each other)

I went off plan yesterday for my bff's birthday. today the scale didn't show a loss but not a gain either in a week. Hoping it won't be worse in a few days. Today it has been a slow day eating for me. Just not as hungry. YAY! lol.

Love the heavy whipping cream. I also add Torani English toffee flavor or Irish cream with my hwc in my coffee. Trying to stay off the coffee this week or for the next few weeks. Might be stalling me a bit. It's hot here in SoCal and I just don't want it. Last week I was sick and couldn't get enough coffee but not today. Good luck to you all. Nice to meet you newbies.

I too have a 9 yr old and 2 yr old. I lose it when anyone gets sick or gags by me but not my kids....I found myself reaching out and catching it one time just so it wouldn't hit the couch. LOL!!! I know OH GROSS!!!! What we do for our kids. gotta love them. I kept the old waterproof mattress cover when we got a bigger bed just so I can put it on the couch when they get sick.

I've eaten both an atkins shake and chocolate candies today why? don't have a clue. I think wings for dinner sounds delish. It's a late night at dance class with the kids. I have fully cooked wings in the freezer. Realized recently that the microwave cooks them the same as the oven...only 10 min faster!

Bonny-Jean, I have the same problem.....I think something and it gets typed out wrong. I knew what you meant. I just meant that even though its called a challenge, it really isn't a challenge for some people. But I agree with what you said. Some days I have to skip jumping on the scale to avoid the beating that I know I'll give myself (deserved or not). I think this is PMS week which means I will be retaining some water weight on top of whatever I retain from Sunday's pizza and the meds I'm taking. So I'll pop in to chat but won't weigh until curiosity gets the better of me.

LOL. It's all good. I hope everyone will still pop in regardless of whether they're weighing daily or not. I'm so lucky to be past TOM. It happened when I was 51 and I'm so blessed that I have not had one symptom of menopause.
So, so lucky but again, now I have zero excuse for ups and downs??
