Cudabear, no there's nothing that they can do for her. The only treatment is to amputate the leg and then do chemo, but the arthritis in her other legs is so bad that she's not really a candidate for the treatment.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and words. I told my BF that I'm done. No more dogs. We can't keep going through this. Although we both have kids, we don't have kids at home any more, so they do become our kids. Of course he knows I'm full of bologna, but it really just sucks.

Mrhergoos that is heart breaking to read...I can imagine what you are going through....we have two german shepherds who are now our children since all the kids left home....I tried to put myself in your place to imagine if it were one of mine and it is awful, somehow you will get through this, although it must seem unbearable now, all I can say is just hang in there, but I am really feeling for you.

Are you even a little suspicious that both of your dogs got cancer? I think I only know one person who had a dog with cancer so it seems rare enough that I would wonder what the cause was.

One part of my job I dislike is mandatory conference calls. They are long and all kinds of technical stuff always goes wrong.

No, not suspicious at all. One was a 12 year old Pit Bull, and this one is a 12 year old Rottweiller. They are big dogs, and 12 years is actually a pretty good life span for a large dog. It's actually not uncommon at all. Animals get cancer, just like people do. Sad, but true.

I've lost a couple of dogs to cancer and know quite a few people who unfortunatley have as well.. Sadly it's too common.

PC, do you have any cream cheese you can add to the eggs to stretch them further? Or any kind of meat you can mix into them and scramble them up to stretch them? That's what I love about eggs, you can do so much with them!

Had early morning blood tests, etc, etc. Had to trudge thru yet another new foot of snow and super high winds. What a horrible morning.

Found out yesterday that our Rott has bone cancer.

Okay folks, just one more post

GYPSY:
Wow! After reading your post, you'd like to believe this bizarre behaviour had to be from a completely distraught human being (using the term loosely) but he's been doing this forever. He's just an arrogant, miserable SOB. I have no place to say that but it makes me crazy when some people think they can get away with abusing others like this. OMG, what a tyrant!!

It says so much about the person that YOU are and how you've put up with this all these years. Gyp, you're such an incredible person. You're kind, considerate, giving and so caring so regardless of what some evil people say to you, I hope you know in your heart that you are an amazing human being and deserve nothing but good in your life, not miserable people like that.
You probably have more friends that love you then you know.
Big hug, sweetie.

IC, my dogs are like 4 pounds so unless a bird of prey does not fly away with them I suppose we will have them around for a long time. We have decided that no mater what when ours go we are done. At least until the kids are grown up and we are done traveling. So maybe when I am 80ish.

Tonight I am going to run. I use an app called Nike + even thought I cant wear there shoes or afford there cloths but the app showed me something I did not realize. Last year I ran only 150 miles and the year prior I ran 170 miles so this year I am going to break at least double my yearly average. I usually dont even get the urge to run unless its warm but this year I decided if I am going to have a chance at a marathon I need to get the ground work done on my treadmill and then transition when its warmer to the streets. It does not feel like summer here until mid July. It hit 54 today so maybe Ill go out tonight if I can squeeze my huge body into my cold weather running gear.

James

Mthergoos, so sorry about your Rott. What is his name? Our pets become so close to us sometimes more than people do. I am sorry you are going through this again. Here's one of my favorite dog poems -

The Unconditional Love Of A Dog

Great stories of love people love to recall
But unconditional love is the greatest love of all
The sort of love that a human to another human cannot give
Though your dog will love you for as long as she or he live,
A fact of life many do like to deny
That unconditional love to humans rarely does apply
But your dog will love you till the day he or she does die
And that is a fact and facts never lie
Eight years ago the last dog I had old Jedder passed away
With fondness and sadness I recall her today
To me so devoted she was a true friend
Her love for me unconditional till her very end
The unconditional love of a dog for her or his human master is an amazing thing
Though of the praises of such a love few ever do sing.
by Francis Duggan

James, congrats on the new hole in the belt! I bet you feel wonderful! And love your new pic.

Bonny, WHAT A DroP!!! COngrats!

Thanks so much Missy! I love the poem! Her name is Pru. She is 12, and 120 pounds, so I know that's a long life for a dog of that size, but it just breaks your heart.

Thank you for all the kinds words and support. It means a lot that you all understand.

I am so sorry, MtherGoos! We lost our 16 1/2 year old beagle to cancer about 16 months ago. She was a sweetie.

Thank you so much for all of your kind supportive words. It means so much to me. Y'all have no idea. Thank you.

The plan for my MIL as of Wednesday evening was that Hospice would set up at 9am this morning at her home, ambulance would leave the hospital at 10am and she'd be home by 11am. We got a call early in the morning that she was no longer conscious and the Hospice at home plan was out the window. I had a feeling last night that the plan wouldn't happen. DH left immediately for the hospital. I followed him by about 40 minutes. I came home at noon because the kids wanted to come to the hospital to sit with all of us. The roads were already slick and sloppy. Weather called for 1-3 inches. By the time we left the hospital at 9pm tonight, we'd already gotten 6 inches. Roads were so terrible. One of the most terrifying drives of my life. What is normally a 12-15 minute drive took over 45 minutes. It is still snowing. Heavy winds. I ate all 3 meals in the hospital cafeteria today. I think I managed to be on plan.

B: omelet with cheese, bacon
L: bacon, egg, ham on salad thing with 0 carb dressing
D: 2 very small bratwurst links and a few ounces of cottage cheese

I didn't get to exercise until about 10:30 tonight. Never had a chance to weigh in this morning.

MIL never regained consciousness today, but seemed pretty peaceful even with the labored breathing. They were setting up a continuous morphine drip for her when we left. The nurses have been just amazing. I admire the work they do for the dying and their families so much. I don't know how they do it. I am almost 100% sure that she will not live until morning. If she's still with us, it's going to take us hours to dig out the driveway that this morning contained not a flake of snow.

FIL was almost cordial to me today. Almost acting as if finally got that I meant absolutely no harm to him. I think he was stunned by the fact that my 25 year old DS just sat next to MIL and held her hand for 3 straight hours. I have amazing children. They are such compassionate and kind people. I love them so much and I am so proud of them.

I say huge because my running stuff is a tight large and I am an ex large! I did get out. I live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains so my hood is full of hills which kicked my but. I did have a less than 12 minute miles for 3 mile so I am happy even if I probably will not be able to walk tomorrow. My legs are like noodles, carb free noodles.

Made Parmesan garlic wings, it was ok, kinda dry.

Gypsy you are coping really well from the sounds of it, what a terrible time for you though and your family, your children sound amazing, its a shame the plans didn't work out on getting your mother in law home, anyway I am sure you know we are all here for you, it does you good to write it down and get it out of your system though.
You are doing amazingly well staying on track and still exercising, I don't know if I would be able to do that with all of the stress, it proves what a really strong person you are.....sending hugs.

Bonny, well done on your loss, whoop whoop....finally you are moving again, it will be interesting if you start adding things back in to see what stalled you, but not yet lol, keep losing first.....I would love to post a pic of my dogs but when I hit insert image or pic it wanted a web address...so I have no clue on how to insert a pic, I even tried copy and paste lol....

Baddabing...Well done on getting looser pants....I have trouble with that word as well, it first came out loser lol, but then you can tell when you look at it that its not quite right lol...

Missy I just loved that poem...all of it so true,
Mthergoos...I love the name pru, that is so cute, 12 is a good age but we are never ready to let them go, this must be such a stressful time and everytime you look at her it just must break your heart....I know I will never be ready to loose mine either.
Now I just feel to sad to write anymore.

Morning All:

Missy: Hang in there girl. When things hit, they sure hit hard sometimes. And of course you have compassionate children.... look who their mother is!!!

Baddabing: Good on ya for getting that exercise in!!

Sandy: Just change your avatar temporarily. I get bored easy and change mine all the time! LOL. I can't seem to figure out how to add them to a post either??? Maybe the answer is in the Tools at the top of the page?? I have to ask Mthergoos how she added her before and after side by side like that. Obviously a little more "techy" than me.

Sorry for all the snow my American friends. It's like you got a taste of Canada without ever leaving home!!! Good news is.... it'll all melt soon!! Mine will be here till April though.

Happy Valentine's Day!!! I know I'm happy because I haven't seen 187 since before Christmas. I finally feel like I might be getting down to some real losses again. Part of me thinks that the lemon in my tea is helping. But who knows? I've been trying to add more foods back into my diet. Last week I added strawberries and they seem to be okay. Last night I ate some apple slices with the kids and it doesn't seem to bother me either. I've never made any veggies off limits except for potatoes, corn and carrots. The next fruit will be blueberries and then I'm good for a while.
