Ladies: I was just doing the math and now I'm thinking one pound a week is actually pretty good (without exercise) but the big question is:
Why wasn't I gaining more?
No, really. I used to eat probably 3-4000 cal a day and now it's 1000 so even though it's only 1 lb a week, I'm so grateful my gain wasn't more. I still can't put the numbers together to understand why I wasn't gaining at least 25 lbs a year??? Oh my, the sugar I used to eat.
Although much harder to lose than gain, at least the loss happens a lot faster, even though it doesn't seem like it... but it does.
Hmm, maybe I'll never figure that one out??

Bonny - I hear you on the math being funny. I'll have really bad weeks and then check the scale and have zero gain. It doesn't make sense. Yet I'll have a stellar week and exercise and do everything right and lose 1 pound. I'm in the camp that it's not all about calories in/calories out. There definitely seem to be other factors involved in our weight gains and losses. I think my body is just used to 2-3,000 calorie days. It found a way to be efficient in using those calories and gained to my setpoint and held. Then when I try to lose, it says, "woooah there! Stop this nonsense!!" and tries like heck to hold on to this fat. It does let go, but sometimes slower than it seems it should.

Great losses everyone! With the craziness of the holidays, I forgot to mention the results of my dh's cholesterol test. We both had high cholesterol in the past and a few months after me starting Atkins and exercising, he started a low fat diet and exercising. My levels came out perfect and his are still high. They did drop some but he has to go back on meds. He still wants to continue eating his way though. Last night he made vegetable bacon and it stunk up the whole house. I think I'll just take my real bacon and continue on. LOL

Last night I really wanted cookies and ice cream. I thought my sweet tooth was going crazy. But the issue was I was bored, wanted to snack and get my sugar high while watching tv with hubby. I missed the old routine.

Last time I did low carb I ate all of the time thought it was so lc I could get away with it, then went to weight watchers because I wanted to be able to snack. free fruits and lots of popcorn.
This time I am realizing I need to change some habits, not just foods I eat. That is so damn hard. It is freezing out and I want to lay around and snack. It is comforting to me.

This is the challenge I face.

niciK, I totally understand. For me, it was going out to eat for dinner every night with my BF after work. We put in 11-12 hour days, 6 days a week, at our own store, and that was always our way to relax, unwind, and talk about our day. I always felt like I had earned it! Now, we have a table on our back patio that we eat at most nights, and he throws some meat on the grill while I make some veggies, and we still enjoy our evening together. Now though, he weighs 60 pounds less and I weigh 120 pounds less, and we're both healthier than we have been in many many years.

It's not easy at first, but it is doable and you can do it! Coming here to read when you're wanting to cave really helps too. Post and read and post and read until the urge to cheat passes. We're here for you!

My dh doesn't need to lose weight so he's following a bodybuilding routine. He follows their program exactly as written and won't even eat a protein bar that isn't specifically mentioned by these people. He does look great and feels better. I'm not going to argue or try and educate him. Different journeys for us both I guess.

I've been there. These feelings will get better the longer you stay on plan. I make sure that I have a snack around 8 pm to keep me from feeling deprived. Its usually something like some deviled eggs. You're doing great, hang in there!

Master Cleanse Detox

It's been a slow start & I cannot fathom not being at my goal by Spring, so I am doing the Master Cleanse. (Google if you do not know what it is). I started another link for anyone who may being doing it also. My friend did it & lost 20 lbs and kept it off for a year now. It takes a lot of willpower, but it is great to detox your mind, body & soul...plus I am tired of eating the same things.
I did it about a year ago for 10 days & lost 15 lbs.

My goal is to do this til the end of January to drop the last 20 lbs I need to reach goal, then resume low carb.
I will post my progress on the other link.

Nicik i'm having to learn New routines nyself now that i've quit smoking! Just like I did when I first started LC. It's so crazy to me just How ingrained smoking was in me! First thing in the morning, after each meal, last thing at night. Having to change things up and learn new ways to do things without smoking. Made it through day 3 with No smoking and Dang it was Hard!

Fort McMurray.... wow, okay yeah it's cold there too. I think we beat you over the last couple of months. You should be colder than us seeing as you're so much further north but there's many times where Churchill has been warmer than here. So have you seen any of "Jimmy Davis" tow trucks up there?? Last I seen on the show he was moving his equipment from Hope, BC to Fort Mac??

MASTER CLEANSE DETOX

Skinny: You had me intrigued so I read up on this detox. No offense my dear but this sounds dangerous!! I think after all the reading I did, that this is a liquid fad diet more than a "detox." It sounds radical and numerous people claim to have gained all the weight back as soon as they stop. Even the people who went back to their diets gained the weight back. Don't get me wrong, I am not a "nay sayer" cause I jump on every "diet" idea around. I even bought into that Garcinia Cambogia pill. btw: it didn't work. I believe it actually stalled me.
Hey, if you're okay with it and it works for you then all the power to ya but I got the feeling that this is not a healthy alternative. I just hope if anyone is considering it that they do their homework first. JMHO.

Bonny, many people don't trust any type of fast. I am a BIG proponent of fasts. Maybe because my extended family has always incorporated some type of fast monthly for religious reasons. Fasts can be very healthy for your body. The Master Cleanse is basically a juice fast but with the added benefits of cayenne. I don't know the benefits of the other components of the Master Cleanse, and have never used that fast. But Cayenne is very beneficial to the body. Not only does it increase the metabolism, but it helps kill cancer cells and can also stop/prevent heart attacks. It has a lot of health benefits from helping with hpb, lowering bad cholesterol, helping the intestinal tract - just really a lot of uses. When I had a cancer scare many years ago I went on a cayenne/grass juice fast and within 30 days I had no cancer cells showing up on the tests. For those who fast regularly which skinny does, 10 days is not to long. I have actually done fasts much longer before. Of course I was under the care of a natural herbist/nutritionist and took supplements for nutrients.

Awesome progress Arb!

So I was doing good today until a phone call from my aunt. My family was the one that convinced me that I was fat when I was kid, but if you look at my pictures, I was a beanpole. Just a casual conversation about the weather and I mentioned that since losing some weight, I can't seem to ever get warm. Her reply, "now you know how the rest of us feel". And no they aren't skinny either but not as big as me. She won't think twice about what she said or see any harm in it. But I've been dealing with these little comments all of my life and carry them with me. I'm still working on ignoring them. I'm not the biggest in the family anymore but I wonder if I will always feel that I am.
