Hello and happy new year! It's been a while since I posted. I've been more of a lurker the past few months. I've been in maintenance mode lately, which sadly hasn't worked too well since I've gained back some of the weight I'd lost. I'm glad to see so many challengers still sticking to it and doing so well! You guys are always so inspiring to me. Today I decided to get back on induction and hope to lose the weight I've gained back. I've been struggling with consistency the last few months and my weight has been bouncing all over the place. Hopefully I can get back on track this month!! One day down.......

Shelly, congrats on your decision to stop smoking!! Hope you continue to do well with it!

Great to see mthergoos, pcaltman, mjgh06, trinigirl, bulldogmom, Laura, DQ and all the other challengers from last year!! You are all doing great! KUTGW!
Happy birthday Bonny!

I will try to weigh daily and post more often this month. Here is to a happy and healthy 2014!!

My first weigh in this year....

1/5: 188.6

Sadly, I was down to 170 last July and my weight has been slowly creeping up ever since. When I had hit my 50 lb. loss last summer, I went through my closet and got rid of all my bigger clothes. I'm now to the point where everything I have fits tight. I have to get my weight back down or I will be forced to buy bigger clothes. Last year I did so well the first half of the year then lost a lot of my motivation the second half of the year. I'm hoping to lose all the weight I've gained back (18 lbs.) and then lose another 10 lbs. to finally reach my goal of 160. During the last few months I've had periods where I was on plan and other periods where I was completely off plan. On Dec 19th my dad was in a bad car accident so I flew to Missouri to help him recover. I was pretty depressed about his condition and spending Christmas away from my hubby and kids so I endulged in way too many comfort foods. It is amazing how easy the weight comes back on! In 8 days I likely gained close to a pound a day. I need to stay on plan this time and not allow myself the option of taking a day off.

It's been crazy cold here in Virginia so I need to get my butt back on the treadmill and get some exercise today. Exercise may not help a lot with weight loss but it sure helps me stay motivated. I find it much harder to give in to food temptations on days that I've exercised.

So far I've had coffee with HWC and DaVinci syrup. I am planning on scrambled eggs for breakfast, salad with cheese and ranch dressing for lunch and a steak for dinner. I will also try to drink only water for the rest of the day.

I hope everyone has a great day!

ARB: You have a bizarre metabolism!! OMG, no wonder your losses are so incredible cause so are your gains. How the hell does somebody gain 17 lbs in a week? What??? Did you eat a cow??? LOL. Just kidding. You have no information about yourself in your stats. Tell us about you. Where are you from? What is your starting weight and goal?? You didn't mention if you're exercising or I missed it?? Wow, you are doing great!!!

pcaltman: Eat!!! You're only eating when hungry which is good and you're only eating what you should so go ahead. Don't eat too little which I have done too many times. Not always by choice but more is better, apparently! I just repainted my basement last spring and cleaned it all out and rented a paint sprayer and had it done in 1.5 hrs, all 1200 sq ft of it. Fast and easy!!

Julie1972: Glad you're back. S**t happens, eh. You and the rest of us know that we are susceptible to quick weight gain so this is something we have to mindful of for the rest of our lives, I guess. As long as you get back to it that is the big thing. To throw in the towel is the perfect recipe for continual gains. If you get back on track you WILL be successful again. You've proven that before so c'mon girl, you can do it.

Nice to see you posting again Julie. I am the same way with weight gain when off plan. It is crazy. But from everything I have read Atkins is the #1 plan for the fastest weight gain back when off plan. Scary!! But as I plan this to be my woe for life, I hope not to have to worry about being off plan for long periods at a time, but look forward to maintenance foods. I have been reading up on maintenance with Atkins and when we reintroduce new foods ie..higher than induction carbs, we should do it very slowly at only 5-8g a day. So maybe that will help keep the weight gain down. I am definitely hoping to eat some higher carb foods like asparagus and butternut squash. I really don't miss potatoes or rice, but maybe some low carb mac and cheese.

pcalt, what is with you at TOM. Your scale does NOT move one way or the other! That's just amazing to me. It's like your body goes automatically to maintenance mode. Do you drink extra water during this time? I usually up my water intake by another 16oz = 128oz a day and I will sometimes lose during TOM.

Welcome Becca!

Pinky, at least you are back here. We missed you. You'll be back on plan soon enough. How are you feeling?

My scale was bouncing this morning between 164.8 and 165.2. I'll take the higher # til it stays set.

1/1 167.2
1/2 167.6
1/3 167.8
1/4 165.2

Good Morning Everyone!

Julie, so good to see you back! I was actually thinking about you just the other day and wondering where you had been. No worries, new year, new start, and right back on track. You can do this. Being back on induction should get rid of some of that water weight quickly, and then the rest will fall in line too. We're here for you! I know reading and posting on here often helps me to stay on track too.

Pink, glad to see you back too! You don't have to face the scale if you don't want to, just get right back on track and start feeling better again.

Shelly, How's the no smoking going?

Kemp, we miss you! Hoping you get home soon!

Laura, how are you doing?

Trini, so proud of you! You're managing maintenance like a pro!

Beccanae, I totally understand! I did make it all the way up to 300 before taking control. I hope you'll post often! We're all here for you.

PC, I agree with Bonny, if you're hungry, EAT. There's no reason to be hungry with this way of eating. It's all on plan food, so go ahead and listen to your body. If you're genuinely hungry, then eat something.

Hope everyone has a really great day!

OH! I almost forgot! I have two Non Scale Victories that I wanted to share!

This is probably TMI, but that's okay. At home, I use a big bath sheet when I get out of the shower. I wrap it around me while I get ready for work. In the past, a regular size bath towel would NEVER fit around my body. Last weekend we went to Laughlin for a night and were staying in a hotel. When I got out of the shower I grabbed the hotel towel, and WRAPPED IT AROUND ME! Seriously, I was able to wrap the towel completely around me and was covered! I can't tell you how many years it's been since I could do that. I know it sounds silly, but that was a really big deal for me.

The next thing is that in the last week, 2 different people that I see on a regular basis have had to do a double take because they didn't recognize me. The lady in the UPS store I see about once a week and we always have a nice little chat. This week when I went in, she just treated me like any other customer, and then all of a sudden she took a good look at me and said, "Oh my gosh, I didn't even realize it was you!". I also go into the same little store every morning to get my Diet Coke, and there are about 3 different ladies that work there, but I usually see all of them every morning. They all know exactly what I want, because it's the same every day. When I went in 2 days ago, the one lady asked me what she could get for me and I told her and she also took a good look at me and said she didn't recognize me. She said that I must have lost a lot more weight in the last couple of weeks because I look so different. Oddly enough, I've had very little scale losses in the last couple of weeks.

Anyway, just wanted to share those two little victories that had me feeling good. It's great to get little reminders of how much we're changing whether the scale reflects it or not.

Mthrgoos i'm doing Ok. Haven't quit 100% yet but cut Way down. Instead of a pack or more a day I average about 6-7 cig in a day. I'm working on changing my patterns and habits. I haven't smoked yet today! Eekkk! I'm so used to my morning routine of wake up, us bathroom, weigh, coffee, grab a smoke and then go about my day. It's what I do Every. single. morning! So I have to change it up!

Shelly, you're making progress and that's what counts. You're doing WAY better than you were a week ago. Don't beat yourself up over trying to be perfect. 6-7 cigarettes per day is much better than 20!

Congrats mthergoos!! I was also super excited the first time I was able to wrap a normal towel around me! It is a huge deal! Congrats on your non-scale victories!! You are doing awesome! Thanks also for the welcome back!

Shelly, KUTGW with your smoking cessation!! I know it's hard! I had to quit a long time ago when I got married (my hubby's mom died of lung cancer at 46 so he was adamant that I quit). It will get easier with time!! Hang in there!

Congratulations!!! You could keep the coconut oil and use it to cook in, or just use it days when you haven't had much fat and need to add a little more fat in. Actually, it also works great as a lotion for your skin, or a conditioner for your hair. The uses for coconut oil are almost endless!

Mthergoos: OMG, that's the best post I've seen in a while!! I was tearing up reading it. I'm so, so proud of you and you do look amazing!! Throw that damn scale away cause nothing is more confirming than people you see everyday not recognizing you!! Wow, that is so cool! I hope it made you feel like a million bucks. You are so kind and supportive to all of us and I'm glad this happened to you! You're an amazing lady. Love ya!!

Shelly: One day at a time, my dear. It's that freakin' habit that's so hard to break but your tenacity will see you thru!! Good luck sweetie.

Amber: I use coconut oil to cook everything but eggs and Mthergoos is right about skin and such. I use it on my face and I also use it on the

Thank you so much Bonny! And thanks for the tip on using coconut oil on the dog pads! I never thought of that! Great idea.

Avaleigh, hang in there Sweetie! You're surely do for a whoosh very soon!
