Bonny you crack me up.:evelutionlol: All I keep thinking about is Polar Bears, Walruses, and fat seal lions lying around on the ice. Layer of fat hun.....

MJ sounds like what hubby and I do. I did turn up the heat today He did notice and complained. I swear he would move to Alaska with his sister and wear shorts all day. Not for me. I love the season's just hate being cold.

Mahanna is was thinking the same thing as Shelly. Broth. You will start to feel better soon.

I'm the last and first post again... how embarrassing! Anyway, I knew I was gonna show an increase today but I just gotta ask you guys something.

Question: How am I ever supposed to move past Induction when a bite or two of "off plan" food is gonna move the scale upward???

Yesterday I forgot to make lunch again and went to work with 1/3 of a kolbasa. Well that didn't last very long and to relieve the hunger pain ate 4 Cadbury fingers, then later in the day had 5 pretzel sticks. Had 1 coffee and water. Supper was a 7 oz steak with bearnaise and water to drink. 2 diet cokes for the evening. I know there's "bad" things I ate but to move the scale almost 1/2 lb is almost ridiculous. So is an apple or a banana down the road gonna do the same thing?? I just can't imagine being on this strict induction forever?? I've only lost about 12% and have slowed to about a pound a week. It shouldn't take a year to lose 50 lbs?? I can't cut my calories anymore or I'd be too low and getting sick all the time. Other than yesterday, I don't know what I'm doing wrong??

Bonny Jean I'm sorry the scales weren't kind....and on your birthday!! NOT fair!! I went off plan between Christmas and New Year's thinking that I could get over all my cravings and then be really strong when I started up again...... 1 week~~ 17 lbs!! It is coming off well right now but I bet I am going to have to struggle to get back to low that I had hit on Christmas morning....We'll make it though, hang tough!!

Hi Bonny, happy birthday! Hope you enjoyed some mushrooms neptune whilst at the keg!

I hear your pain! But having surgery chocolate snacks like fingers and pretzels are going to stop you from ever hitting ketosis, that is going to stop you from going anywhere. It doesn't matter how small the portion - these are not the foods we were meant to eat (I mean, because they are processed, frankenfoods, not referring to lc). An apple or other fruits later on in maintenance is not going to have the same impact. Induction is meant to clear out your dependence on sugar and your storage levels of it - thats why they are a complete no-no. When things happen, you just need to find better alternatives - plain nuts, a packet of sliced ham/salami, raw broccoli and humous - all of these options would fill the gap till you can get some proper lc foods. Hell, even a whopper or a big mac without the bread would suffice in a pickle. I often snack on butter and coconut oil, or coconut bark if at home.

A year for 50lbs is not unreasonable - think how long it took to gain those 50lbs in the first place.

You've mentioned a couple times that you can't reduce what you are eating anymore - therein lies the problem by the sounds of it. You should not be restricting what you are eating in terms of calories. On the days I lose the most, I probably eat the most - 4 double cheeseburgers from Mcdonalds is a meal for me with some lettuce, that often will leave me satisfied for the entire day and then is followed by a reasonable dinner or an omlette with cheese and ham and mushrooms. I always add extra fat throughout the day to ensure my protein is not turned into glucose. I can sometimes eat 3-4,000cals in a day owing to the fact that fat is high calorie. This doesn't concern me as long as my carb count is low. If my carb count is slightly up - as long as its solely from vegetables, I also won't worry.

When things are not working, always go back to the source - your atkins book. Keep a food diary and work out from there what is missing (fats, veg, meat). If you do have a slip up like the fingers and pretzels, just forget about it and get back on track as thinking about it will end up causing a full on blow out and self-sabotague. Remember, fat is vitally important - it keeps you full for a long, long time, so don't eat enough and you will feel hungry sooner.

No, I have not lost what I want to but I have also been down this road before and know that eating disorders can be the result of overly enthusiastic dieting and unrealistic deadlines. Alternatively, the pressure makes you give it all up as the future looks bleak.

I have lost 7kgs since starting in March with a couple off the bandwagon moments. Thats not a lot considering I want to lose a further 15kgs. But, I am two sizes smaller, I do train at the gym everyday and things are happening, albeit slowly. But I have to be realistic. I am hypothyroid, I am 40, I have numerous training injuries from over the years.

I think you might be a good candidate to do the fat fast - its in the 72 and 91 Atkins books but you basically eat nothing but high fat for 3-5 days, limiting the amount to around 1,000 calories and carbs to almost nothing. This could be 100gr of cream cheese, macadamia nuts, your bullet proof coffee with added coconut oil, etc. there are loads of options but it will leave you hungry. The point of it is to switch your body over to ketone burning by exhausting your stores of sugar completely. I've done it - but found the calorie limit too strict so upped my intake. It worked, I dropped 2kgs but stayed in ketosis for a long time after.

Looking at what you are eating - making sure it is enough and has enough fat in it will go along way to getting you on your way. Be prepared as much as you can, and when things happen, find the best alternative. And keep your chin up.

Bonny, I understand how you feel and can relate. I'm getting super frustrated as well.

Hoping to see SOME changes when TOM starts and lets me dump some water weight.

I am doing induction as clean as possible, and not really getting any results right now. I'm approaching almost half a year of LC, and halfway through last month my stats just flopped, and doesn't show any signs of improvements.

I suppose the next thing I will have to do is stop my morning coffee, splenda and HWC with the coffee. I've already cut out my evening cocoa or decaf coffee.

So that will just leave me with meat, eggs, salt and pepper, butter, coconut oil, broccoli, greens, and cauliflower. Hooray...

January Progress:

Oh Bonny - Tiggy is right though. I have been getting frustrated, but then noticing what I put in my mouth. Not the right choices at all. Once the weight comes off a banana, apple or others will be fine when maintaining. Right now I need to be strong and just eat the right food. It's hard, but it's January and a fresh start. Plan for extra foods during the day so you don't get caught with the munchies and nothing to eat. You can do this

I kept going to the frig last night because I was hungry (tom). I didn't have anything to grab to munch on but almonds. I know not induction, but better than the fresh homemade bread I had on the counter. Man did that smell good. So today I am cooking up a few pork chops to have on the side if I get hungry. Maybe have a few snack bags full of diced cheese, veggies, meats to store in the frig or bring to work.

Goal = 159

Weight:
Jan 1 - 168
Jan 2 - 169
Jan 3 - 169 (tom)
Jan 4 - 169 (tom)

Menu:
B - coffee, splenda, hwc, 2 eggs,1 sausage
L - 1 chicken thigh w/mayo
D - beef stew
S - 2 sausage patties, 1 oz cheese, few almonds

Trini, You go girl. Weigh to maintain!

Bonny, I am so sorry the gain happened on your birthday. I also agree with what has already been said and will add- No matter what diet you choose, there is always a change needed in 'what you eat'. Those of us who are unfortunate enough to have weight issues, just can't eat what others eat. For me at least Atkins allows all the food I love - fat and meat (bacon ) 1/2lb to a lb up after being off plan is not to bad. When I go off even a little, it is usually a 2lb increase. Heck even my new pain med was making me gain 1/2lb a day just about. I also agree if you can do a fat fast it would help a lot. You can eat every three - four hours on it. I have never been hungry doing them, but some have. You eat cream cheese, lc peanut butter, hwc, butter, pork rinds etc. If you need 'food' you could put the cream cheese or pb on celery sticks, or make a dip for the pork rinds. It really does work. I did one yesterday and lost 2lbs and I am back in strong ketosis.

arb, WOW you are rocking it!

1/1 167.2
1/2 167.6
1/3 167.8
1/4 165.2

Fat fast recipes I use most often:

coffee with at least 1/4c hwc sometimes over ice

8sl of bacon throughout day

pork rinds whenever I want throughout day sometimes with dip - 2tb sour cream mixed with 1tsp lc sf peanut butter

1oz cream cheese mixed with 1tb hwc, 1tb lc SF peanut butter usually twice a day

a bowl of hwc made into whipping cream

2oz of sour cream and sliced cucumbers

3 egg yolks mixed with 3tb mayo

Bonny, you've already gotten so much great advice and I also agree with it. I haven't been out of Ketosis in almost 10 months. For Me, I'm afraid that if I do, I won't stop eating! I don't want to take any chances, so I don't eat anything that might throw me out of Ketosis. Dr. Atkins does say that even a bite or two of the wrong things can take you out of Ketosis and it can take several days to get back in. Stock your office with on plan snacks that you'll be able to grab when you get hungry. For me, I get really hungry when I do a Fat Fast, and I hate being hungry. Sometimes I'll do a Fat Fast during the day, just having some fat bombs, egg yolks, etc... and then a Steak or Burger for dinner. Or, back to my go to, I stick to eggs and beef for a while. Either thing is sure to get the scale moving down. Of course I'm losing much slower now than in the beginning, but as long as it's eventually going down, I'm ok with that.

Wow you've all been chatty! So my goal is 5 lbs. I'm losing slow this time around. New years eve was a "goodbye to carbs party" So I'm still recovering from that.
I am going to stop taking coconut oil in my coffee. Since I started that I haven't lost weight. I've been told by others I should try adding it back when I'm in deeper ketosis.
What are your experiences with it?

I spoke to soon!!

Firstly, thank you all so much for your support and great advice. Have I mentioned I HATE cooking and planning!! I think that's why I let myself get so overweight in the first place. Anyway, what happened yesterday isn't my normal daily routine. I was hungry and grazing and unfortunately there was no food at work. I just couldn't bear to go out in -24F to seek out real food. I have had that bag of pretzels at work for 4 months and have never touched them. I actually threw them away yesterday. I used to eat 4 handfuls a day. (that smoking / oral fixation thing )

Dare I say: I got up at 4:30 this morning, weighed myself, had 3 cups of coffee, went back to bed for 2 hrs and weighed again. Down to 192!! Can I take that?? Yeah, I'm gonna take that. LOL. Did I jump the gun and panic.... perhaps. Sorry for venting all over the place and again, my lack of patience is becoming more and more obvious. I'll work on that.

Love and appreciate you all. Thank you!!

Bonny I can relate. I hate cooking and planning menus is a special kind of... Well you know.
I also get bored with food easily.

I've decided I'm weighing weekly not daily. It makes me crazy to see the fluctuation.

Hi Amber! I use coconut oil, but I don't ADD it as an extra 120 calories, I use it in place of something else. So I'm upping my fat, but not upping my overall daily intake of calories. I know, we're not counting calories, and I don't actively count them, but I do try to pay attention to how much I'm consuming. So I don't find that coconut oil stalls me, but it's just part of my regular diet. More than anything, I use it for the other health benefits.

YAY Bonny!! Nice loss!!!! And there's no way in heck I'd go out in -24 temps for food.... or anything else!!!!! I'd starve first!

Bonnie I have never seen losses light this either but I think it is because I gained that 17 lbs!!!!! between Christmas and New Years... 1 week ~ SEVENTEEN POUNDS!!! That is crazy!!! I am eating the same things I did before I took my week break and never saw losses like this so I know it won't last. My body is probably just dumping some of those 17 insane lbs.. Thank God!!!

Day 7 and it's almost 6pm. Today was hard. Today was "I can have one cheat meal or glass of wine" but instead DH is making my favorite scallops over spinach with garlic. No loss today....I'm at the plateau that I haven't battled through all last year. I get frustrated and give up, I NEED to drop a pound for my mind or stay off the scale

SHELLY: Don't like deer?? Man, can't win, eh?? Lose all that weight then quit smoking only to find it causes a gain. UGH!!!! Well, keep at 'er, girl. I'm cheering for ya.

Bonnie~~~Yesterday I had a couple pieces of breakfast sausage and 2 HUGE cups of coffee with HWC and liquid sweetener for breakfast.....a hamburger patty and couple of boiled eggs mixed with mayo for lunch dinner was another hamburger patty and 2 cups of salad with mayo for dressing..... later I had a few pork rinds for snack...oh and a cup of SF jello... I used to have the bullet proof coffee along with my breakfast but saw no losses till I went back to just HWC and the sweetener.....maybe it added too many calories as someone mentioned today...
