I know we are two days away from the end of the month but I decided against waiting until February's Challenge. My challenge is simple, to maintain on the Atkins '72 Plan. No weight loss goal, just happy to be here.

Well wishes to everyone and keep up the good work.

Hanging in there, MthrGoos!!! Not sure if I am going to make my 155 goal, but it's going to be close! Sometimes, I feel like the little engine that could! It's been really helpful now that my DH is doing LC with me. He's now down about 23.5 pounds. He's super happy about it. And seeing his success helps keep me on board with the plan. I am going to mention how proud I am of my DD. She has lost 80 pounds. She doesn't do LC, she's very good about her portion control and she has kept a meticulous food diary for 2 years. She pretty much does an IF plan that she worked out on her own before either one of us had heard of it as a real woe. She's amazing.

Trying to decide what my February goals are going to be!

I agree with you both! January has been an awful month for losses. I'm hoping February is much better.

I think I lost a pound!!! Ugh/YAY. It's sad when you just want to get into the set of 10 numbers and those numbers are the 220's! From my start this month it's more like 3 but the scale fluctuates so i'm not going there yet. Gosh in Sept I was like 217-222 but dang how did I let it get so far out of control? Haven't cheated all week. Haven't had the urge to cheat. If I need a chocolate sweet I drink a chocolate protein shake or bites from a bar just to satisfy that craving. (either one is 2 carbs)

b: 5 chicken meatballs, 5 chicken sausage
s: no snack not hungry YAY~
L: green salad with cucumber and rotisserie chicken and ranch
s: probably a protein shake -will see where I am in a few hours.
D: the plan is a zucchini and hamburger patty.

Goals this year which I've been doing really well at the last few months is not to waste food! I hate throwing food out that the family doesn't eat. So I've scaled down my cooking to only last for maybe one leftover day not 3 because no one wants it by the third day lol. I like to cook but not all the time and I also derail if i'm not prepared so I have to cook at least 2 meals worth not including what I feed to the family.

Oh Laura I checked some of your recipes and I want to try the cauliflower skins. lol. Did they hold up?

Ladies, if you find a recipe that just does wonders not only in taste, but seems to give you a loss or fills you up please share. I'm always looking for new ideas.

Sending hugs Bonny! Sounds like a tough situation. I hope your son helps mend things before they get worse! Hang in there!

Another day on plan for me. I'm worried that tomorrow will be tough. We are having a big party at work and there will be many more temptations than normal, along with pizza, sandwiches, etc. I will be good though!

My weight is all out of whack this week. It should level out in a few days, hopefully with a loss!

Well if it wasn't for the very rare slips with alcohol over the course of the past 20+ days my DW & I could have said we were doing the whole 30. Oh well, we have pretty well toed the line when it came to total carbs <20g per day.
Still not seeing much progress however, slow & steady wins the race.
Off to the gym tonight for a few circuits of weights then the pool for some laps tomorrow.
Hard to believe that in only 2 more days, this thread comes to an end. I'm sure "someone" will start one up for Feb

luvleliz, I ate them with a fork but they were super yummy. Another good quick one is the american cheese slice quartered and microwaved until it makes a little cracker, top it with sour cream and bacon crumbles.

I'm ready for this month to be over... need a new start for weight loss.. keep going up or bouncing.. up 7# from the beginning of the month.

Hello everybody

Not much new. Still suffering from the "polar vortex" LOL. Strange thing I noticed.... step on the scale as soon as I get up and 1 hr later it shows a
lower weight???? This is, of course, before any coffee!!
How bizarre???

Have a great day.

I've been eating a bowl of strawberries every day since my losses picked up. I'm not sure if its a coincidence or not. I've also worked out on the treadmill a couple of days, took a day off and then spent a couple of hours doing sprints up a snow covered hill yesterday. Something has finally kicked in I think but I'll know for sure if I see 187 something.

luvleliz, Congrats on the loss! Forget the past and concentrate on how well you are doing now!

Julie, I've felt like a yo-yo the whole month of January! Stay strong at the party today!

PaleoGuy, good job to you and your dw. Slow losses are still good losses. It will probably take me a full year to see a 50 lb loss as my 1 year anniversary for this woe is coming up. But since there is no time frame, I'm okay with that. And we will definitely see a Feb Challenge thread. I can't function without this group.

Laura, It hasn't been a great month for a bunch of us. We'll take February and start anew. You've rocked some amazing losses in the past and I have no doubt you can do it again.

Bonny-Jean, Great job on the loss! I always weigh more after I've gotten up and walked around. And you Canadians can have your polar vortex back, we Southerners have had enough! LOL

arb, Nice loss! I'm in Va so I feel your pain. The kids probably won't go to school tomorrow either. I wouldn't mind them having the time off except that we are stuck in the house instead of out and about. I'm ready for spring and some fun adventures.

Congrats to all those who ARE losing!!!

I am bouncing up again. I so hate January! I need to start drinking more water again as I have very much slacked off that. Kids are out of school again today here as well. But I had to drive my brother to work last night at 11:30pm. I think I drove around 20mph the whole way just because they do not salt the roads here. Plus I had to break the ice off our truck doors just to open them. They were frozen shut.

Shelly, I don't know it for a fact, but have heard that for the first 6 months or so after you quit smoking, you will have lots of sickness as your body works all the junk out of your lungs and bloodstream that smoking caused.....but after that you rarely get sick.....so it was with me 15 years ago. Just think, only 5 more months to go...and even if your scale is bouncing around, by staying on top of it you won't gain the 60 lbs that I did and that I am still trying to get rid of...... you are really doing so well for being at this stage of the game!! Be proud of that

Did anyone in the UK here watch the BBC2 show last night on sugar? It was terrible!

They took twins, put one on low carb and the other on a low fat diet with loads of carbs. They showed how the lc one was too winded in a cycle challenge. Then at the end, they said he was becoming prediabetic because he was converting his own muscle to glucose and his resting insulin levels raised a few points over the month! The low fat guy had improved insulin levels!

I really think they mixed up their samples!!! The lc one lost 4kgs and the other, only 1kg, but they said the lc guy lost the most muscle mass!

They were trying to put it across that a lc diet will turn you diabetic and high carb was fine and would make your insulin more effective (not directly, but in a roundabout way).

I'm sure they didn't have him on the right protocol - probably too high protein and not enough fat. I periodically get my muscle mass tested and I have never lost any and have done this a year. And my insulin levels are excellent. I also have no issues with gym training - in either endurance or intensity. Something a bit wonky here...

Makemeslim, did you catch it?

My mom was telling me something last night about these two dr's that did lc and low fat. must have been the same thing. And she said the lc one couldn't ride a bike etc. I must say that lc isn't for everyone. My sister n law had a bad reaction doing it. Something about heart issues. But I've never known anyone to have such results as what my mom was telling me they were reporting. I know I've heard of carbup before a marathon etc. and yes you have more energy but like you said it almost seems like the results were mixed up.
