I made my own. It was much better than the broth that you find in the stores. I actually baked a whole chicken for the family for dinner. Then after dinner I just removed all the meat and put all the bones and skin in a big pot with some water and let it simmer a few hours. I then strained all the bones and skin and meaty bits out and put it all in mason jars with lids. It was very yummy in soups and just on its own.

Thanks Lori, I think I'm going to try and make a pot of it with some beef bones. I keep reading about all the health benefits of it for your bones, joints, and intestinal health.

Shelly, good luck with the job!!

I made it through the movie without eating the popcorn and candy my kids had. I did end up eating my pack of almonds though and drank a big bottle of water. We all enjoyed Frozen just as much the second time! Can't wait for it to come out on blu-Ray. I had a second bowl of my soup for lunch. Good and full now!

Bonny, I take 500 mg a day of Nature's Way Magnesium Citrate and it helps prevent the leg cramps and constipation at that dosage. Hope you find something that works! Leg cramps are miserable!

DQ, hope you're feeling better!! Lots of folks sick in our area. Multiple friends with the flu currently. Hope you get better fast!

Shelly Good luck with the Job!

Julie, Great job on making it through the movie!! That is major!

Bonny, sorry about the calcium issue. I didn't even know that. My parents have to take excess calcium to prevent osteoarthritis. I am on magnesium daily already and it never helped the cramping. Then I remembered reading in the 72 Atkins that Dr. A said to take extra calcium for it and it worked for me.

DQ, get to feeling better fast!

Mthrgoos, I also make my own homemade bone broth. My great grandmother passed down her old recipes and it is very simple and wonderful!

I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and the whoosh fairy visits us all!

Missy, what kind of bones do you use? I saw some marrow bones in the store today that I was going to get, but I've also read about using knuckle bones and neck bones? What do you think works best? Can you share your recipe for it? This is my first time trying it.

DQ - hope your tummy trouble disappear soon. I have a couple of cheesecake muffins I made a few days ago in the fridge. They are quite yummy. I'm certain your next cheesecake will be good too. Maybe some ingredient wasn't quite right? Feel better.

Finger crossed you don't see a gain but exercise is notorious for doing that. The scale might move temporarily but you're body will love you for doing it!!

Bone marrow may add extra nutrients and I am sure they weren't left out in my gma's bone broth. Any bones you have, usually leftover from cooking a ham, turkey, chicken. In the case of my gma's recipes it was usually boar, squirrel, chicken, deer, or even turtle bones were used - feet and all. Placed in a big stock pot with 2tbs of vinegar and 2qts of water. Bring it to a boil, then place in the oven overnight. As she had a wood stove it said on coals, but I changed this to be 200 overnight. She said to run it through a strainer twice before storing, but I do not do that either. I think her reason for it was to help remove hair that may have not been fully removed from the carcass.

I remember my gma would make a special pot of this whenever anyone was getting sick and she would add in several onions, mustard leaves, and a block of salt. After an hour of it cooking we would have to hold our heads over the pot with a towel over our head for 10-15 mins every hour. Before bed she would put a mustard wrap on us and we would be well by morning.

ADDED: I wanted to add I asked my gma one time why it was overnight. She said the longer you cook them bones the healthier the broth will make you.

ARB: That would be a heat wave here.
Our schools don't close till we're like -48F.
Yesterday was -41F.
We also need over 2' of snow to shut them down too.

Hi all,

Bonny I am from up north half my life. Not Canada mind you but still Michigan, Up state NY, Mass. We never closed schools. But I do have to say we have the mountains where I am now and the buses can't drive down the roads. But that cold, nope you can keep it. I was complaining to hubby how cold I was last night in front of a fire and 68* on the thermostat. Ha....

I also agree with gma. I make chicken soup all the time and anytime the kids are sick. Best remedy in the world and all natural. I did laugh because I remember hanging over a pot with the towel over my head too.

Nothing new just taking one day at a time. Will weigh in tomorrow am. Hubby brought wine home last night. I guess he had a very bad day at work, poor guy. Anyway helped him with that but was good with all food choices. I know it slows things up but it's nice to have. Just want to start walking again with the nice warm sun hitting my face. Spring, hope it comes soon.

Have a great day all!!!!!

MtherGoos – I am going to do some shopping this weekend and see what I can find. There is a Kmart just 6 miles from me! I really did enjoy the broth I made. Isn’t it funny how sometimes you “forget”. Now I’m thinking, why am I not buying a chicken a week instead of the boxed both?

Shelly – good luck on both the job. I would enjoy a job like that. I like being the cook with our WOE. We are then in control of so many things. Nice drop today!

MJ – I really want to take the daily supplements, but I’m horrible at remembering them daily. Any tips? I’m going to try putting the bone broth in the oven overnight. That sounds wonderful. I just stewed min on the stove for 3-5 hours.

Makemeslim – Yes, it is wonderful that we are all so different, otherwise, this world would be really boring

Bonny – Isn’t there sometimes such a thing as too much information. I’m with you, now I want to take all three, but not separately I ws laughing this morning, because it was warmer by about 10 degrees where my husband is in Ontario than where I am in Ohio. Crazy!

Avaleigh -

Arb - Yes, that is probably why they never cancel school here. The roads are flat and straight. The biggest problem are drifts and the snow plows get those not problem.

Laura – It takes some searching, but you can find cutie bras in the larger sizes. I had some, but they aren’t that comfortable

PC – I’m with you on the Spring wishes!

NOTE: Something I remember about my bone broth. I had rubbed the chicken I baked with butter and Italian dressing as well as stuffed it with onions and celery. As mentioned before we ate the baked meat, but there was some skin uneaten. The flavors from the rub and stuffing did carry over to the broth, because there was some skin that was in the broth.

Jan 1 - 188

Jan 3 - 183 (losing that water weight from the holiday carbfest)

Jan 15 - 177.4 meat and egg fast
Jan 16 - 176.6 meat and egg fast (C25K W2D3 - DONE!)
Jan 17 - 175.0 meat and egg fast GOAL!!!
Jan 18 - 176.0 *had a salad tonight*
Jan 19 - 176.6 *had some cabbage and mushrooms and cream cheese muffins tonight*
(c25k w3d1 done)
Jan 20 - 177.0 *had two cream cheese muffins*
Jan 21 - 177.4 (C25K w3d2 done) meat and egg and more water!
Jan 22 – 176.0 meat and egg and daily water goal met!
Jan 23 – 175.4 (c25k scheduled for tonight)
Jan 24 – 176.4

I didn’t run last night like I was supposed too. I am determined to do that today right after work, before I go out to steak with friends. I really hope I’m able to get on an every other day pattern, but I just keep doing every third day. Grrr.

Well, I am up a pound, but it was worth it and I didn’t go off plan. I made a broccoli zucchini cheesy casserole last night to die for! I have posted the recipe on my blog. I knew I would probably be up today, just from the added carbs, because I have been doing meat and egg fast. I’m okay with that because it was a low carb veggie side and I know it will go back down if I just keep on keeping on.

Try the dish, it was delish!

I'm up so much.... going back to induction for a couple weeks.... I've just been shoving food that doesn't even taste good into my mouth..... to hell with this it stops now. I worked too hard to get to onederland to screw it up now.

Going shopping that will take my mind off all the stress of working 70 hour weeks.

So the scale not moving for me led to the bad decision of having pizza when everyone was over here sledding and I deserve that gain. Same thing happened in November which led to the December disaster. But today I jumped on the treadmill again after taking a few months off. I'm hoping that with the exercising, I'll be less likely to cave in during these weak moments. If nothing happens within the next week, I'm thinking about trying intermittent fasting. I like the sound of the 5:2 plan.

Laura, I believe you can get your mojo back. You have worked hard to get to onederland. But most everyone hits a roadblock from time to time. We just have to figure out what's going to get us back in the right frame of mind. I'm with you stuck mentally and physically.

Lori, great job staying on plan! I'm sure the gain is just water weight from eating out.

pcaltman, I'm ready for spring too but I hear the East coast could get another snowstorm around Tues or Wed. The weather nerds on fb are talking about it.

Shelly, nice drop! Fingers crossed the drops continue!

arb, great job on the loss!

Bonny-Jean, I bet if you take off your socks, you'd probably drop that extra bit that showed up on the scale.

Good Morning Everyone! Scale still stuck for me. Apparently my body just wants to hang out here for a while. I just keep bouncing up and down from 178-180. Up and down and up and down. I haven't gone off plan though, and I know I'm in ketosis, so eventually it has to drop. Doesn't it????? I know my calories aren't too high either, I'm usually around 1200ish. I guess I was due for a bit of a stall. I know, technically it's not a stall, but you know what I mean.

I bought some oxtail bones today, so I'm going to try and make a bone broth tonight. Hopefully there's a lot of good nutrients in those. I read that you if you put it in the crockpot, you can just let it cook for 24-48 hours, so I may try that and see it comes out. Thanks so much Missy and Lori for sharing your info on making the broth!

Shelly, keeping you in my prayers about the jobs!!

Laura, you have worked so hard, and I know you're not going to let this get the best of you now. You've got this!! I don't know why sometimes it seems so easy to keep our head in it, and sometimes it's like we're fighting ourselves. If I could figure out what causes the difference, I'd be very rich I'm sure! But I know that you can do it and that we're all here for you!

Not rubbing it in or anything, but it's going to be close to 80 degrees here today.

I have the 5.2 book....intermittent fasting is something I have done in the past and probably will in the future TBH. I did like it. It may be something I do when I hit maintenance. I was at goal this time last year and maintenance was difficult. Well, not so much difficult, more I just did not have a plan and as a result I lost the way. I re read my Atkins book today and I'm so glad I did....I'm feeling really positive about things now.
