It's been a long, long time since I've posted, but great to see some familiar people! Kemp, Amber, Laura and Chelsey !!! Missed you all! Hope you are doing well.

Been living (mostly) LC for the past year. I've gained about 6lbs from my lowest, but happy to say I'm restarting Induction 27lbs lower than last year.

Have gotten the whole family involved: my dad has lost 40lbs, my mom 21lbs, and my boyfriend about 20lbs. So happy for all of them.

My January goals are centered mostly around workouts--which I've neglected something awful in the past 6 months!

Hoping to see the 140s by January 31!
Hey Kat!!! I missed you too! Great job maintaining and getting everyone else involved!! I unfortunately couldnt maintain with the stress of work (or at least thats what I told myself) but I am in a much better place this year and I am taking control Hope you see the 140s this month!

Another successful LC night at work...I dont know what it is about working nights but it just makes you want to snack, snack, snack! And not the good stuff, but stuff like M&Ms, baked goods, and chocolate! I am pushing through the cravings and not giving in though! Going on the road this weekend for a small getaway to the aquarium with 5 kids and 3 moms (including myself!) It will be fun, and I will be prepared!

Hi Chels! You will do it!!! You were doing amazing last year!!! I need a C25K accountability buddy as I'm attacking that again (know we started last year and didn't get very far)

Shelly: AWESOME for quitting smoking. I face that battle myself and try quitting about every couple of months. Something always happens and I give in. I'm thinking that it will be a February goal for me! You will be my inspiration And let me know how the Chantix goes...I've tried everything but.

Amber Your workouts sound awesome! So proud of you!!! I'm sure you are shrinking shrinking shrinking even though the pounds aren't moving as you'd like. I know that even though I've maintained my weight decently, I'm much flabbier now than I was when I was working out on a regular basis (sigh). I just have to get in the zone!!

Well, it's Friday nite! Whoo-hoo. I'm sitting here after having a wonderful lobster and crab dinner, in my warm jammies having a smoke and a nice creamy cup of hot coffee. Tell me, does it get any better????? I'm a very content, happy puppy right now (okay, Mastiff). I hope you are all feeling good about yourselves today, too. If not, cheer up buttercup, it could be worse.

Have a great weekend girls and boy (btw: where the hell is that boy???)

I am laying down with my cats, decaff coffee with heavy cream. It is freezing out. I feel content too.
I am not eating out of boredom and binging, so I feel great about that. This woe helps me so much with cravings.

I know many people take Magnesium to, um, "keep things moving." There are MANY kinds in the stores, what kind should I take? And any milligram dosage I should be aiming for?

Gypsy - I copied this from the Atkins 72 post I had responded to kemp with the same question:

The magnesium I take is oxide. There are different types, some work better than others and they have different side effects. I take 250mg in addition to whats in my multivitamin, and when I am backed up I take 500mg extra which usually works within a couple hours.

If I remember correctly, there are ten different forms. Orotate to me is the best but hard to find at least where I am at. I can not take the chelate, lactate, or sulfate due to side effects and won't take chloride or carbonate just because of the chemical uses, and citrate goes right through me. I haven't tried the taurate which is supposed to be very good, nor the threonate. Also magnesium is best taken with a calcium supplement for better absorbtion.

Katsue the Chantix has worked really well. One thing I had to do is make sure I ate a Good sized breakfast before I took my morning pill! If not I got really weak and So super tired! It's so strange how it Totally changed the taste of the cig. I had one 2 days after starting the chantix and it tasted Literally like Burned hair smells! So disgusting! It has taken the cravings away but I have had to change my habits so that I don't smoke. I am So glad that I tried it! 6 days today smoke free!!

Morning All

Well, we've knocked off 1/3 of January. I swear this is the second hardest month to lose weight. Our bodies must do a "preservation" thing in the depths of winter?? I think I've been in the 190's for 8 wks now. Ugh.

Today we're having a heat wave from warm air coming from the south. Thank you U.S.A. !!! I have my work cut out for me today and that scale better move tomorrow!
I'm planning on getting out the "roof rake" and removing a lot of snow off the house and garage roofs. Then I'll have to get the snowblower going to remove the 3' piles I'm gonna create. Did this last year and my arms were like rubber after. My luck, the scale will go up cause I'm retaining water for muscle repair. Can't wait to see what happens.

So what are you doing today????

I jumped on the scale and I'm 189. I was 189 something on Dec 31st but didn't eat well New Year's Eve or New Year's day. So it took me ten days to lose what I gained for just that incident. I believe it will probably take me the rest of January to lose the rest that I gained in December. I still feel bloated and with all of my other weird symptoms, can't help but to think that TOM is around. Sounds strange that I don't know but since my hysterectomy, my body has been doing strange things. Good news, I'm eating on plan with no issues. My family even ordered pizza last night but the only carbs I consumed were from the pizza fumes.

Way to get back on plan and working on it again. Congrats on avoiding that pizza. That must have been hard! Good for you. Hang in there, hon.

Good Morning All

Had to share some funny news.

Overnight a miracle happened. I lost 30 lbs. You read it right, my scale went from 174 to 144! It was a 10 Jan 14 miracle I tells ya!

The husband told me the scale was broke, so I had to see what it told me, and I told him, the scale wasn't right with the Lord.

So we will be getting a new one today. Hope everyone has a wonderful low-carb day!

Keep on being rock stars everyone!

Any other suggestions??

Hi
I have a new challenge.... I want to lose 50 lbs in 18 weeks!!!

I'm barely seeing a pound a week so my present "lifestyle" isn't gonna work. I'm thinking I need to add exercise and maybe the occasional fast although fasting makes me sick and light headed. I can't think of anything else that might work. My bestest cousin is coming for her annual visit May 22nd and I'd love to blow her away with this kind of weight loss. She's done it before but she paid for a personal trainer and worked out at the gym like crazy, neither of which I could do. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, thanks Bonnie and Trini! Love you both!!

Bonnie, I know I've said it before, but sticking to Beef and Eggs always guarantees me the best losses. Beef of any kind.... Ribeye, Ground Beef, etc.... and eggs cooked in any fashion. Hard boiled and mixed with mayo, fried in butter, scrambled with ground beef mixed in..... It doesn't have to get boring, but it definitely always equals my very best losses.

Shelly, what new food did you try that your body didn't like?

Meep, Maybe your scale was right today and wrong before! Wouldn't that be awesome???

BulldogMom, my body still goes through the same monthly cycle, even though I've had a hysterectomy and there's NOTHING left there. LOL But I still go through that same cycle, the best losses the week before my TOM would start, and then a week of bloating and being hungry and having cravings, just as I though I had TOM still. It's really weird.

I got a new tattoo last night! Love it!! I've been wanting to do it for years, but just kept putting it off. So one of my daughters got me a gift certificate to the tattoo place for Christmas. Really really hurt towards the end, but definitely worth it!!!

Mthergoos:
I am only eating pork and eggs. Seafood and chicken are rare. I'm not fond of beef in the winter. I don't like beef on a frying pan. How are you doing steaks??
I tried upping my fats nominally and that doesn't seem to make any difference.
I'm eating well, I think ....

B: 2-3 eggs or salmon w/mayo
L: if I eat it's just leafy greens w/ 2 tbsp Ranch
D: pork steak or 4 back ribs or 8-10 wings in coconut oil
2 coffee w/ 2 tbsp Splenda and 1/4 c hwc
8 c water w/Mio
rarely a glass of diet coke

That's it and it's pretty much the same every day????? I think I'm following Atkins to the tee but don't understand why things are so slow. I've only been at this for almost 4 months and have only lost 36 lbs out of 90!!

Bonny, I would follow what Mthrgoos said - that goes back to a basic 72' Induction and really helps with the weight loss. But that means NO special sauces or the Ranch(substitute no carb mayo) unless it is carb free. Overload with water - try getting 100+ ounces a day. Then if you don't notice an improvement after a week maybe try a fat fast so you still get to eat.

Shelly, what did you eat new?

Mthrgoos, I love tats and WANT to see a picture, please!!!

I have been bouncing around the 165 since the 4th. Mainly because of new meds and me trying to incorporate new food choices into my diet. I have tried nuts, peas, and high fat refried beans so far. I haven't gained above the 165 so that is good. I have been substituting so not adding in additional calories or carbs, still staying at/below 10 per day.

Even with being off plan eating, you have lost amazingly! Think about this - 4 months = 36lbs lost! 36/4 = 9lbs a month - THAT IS AWESOME!!!

It took you a lot longer to gain that many pounds, so it is coming off at a pretty good rate. There is no miracle fast weight loss. Everyone is different and you are doing so well. Don't get discouraged! You really are doing wonderful at this. Atkins said really the only time to change things were when you did NOT lose anything in a week, then you would go back to the induction. I know I contradict that a lot as I am always trying to rush my weight loss as well. I will do fasts etc if I stall for more than a day or two. But that is not for everyone. And from what you have said, you get sick if you don't eat, so I wouldn't try to push yourself into losing faster.

Keep at what your doing, the weight will come off - and stay off. You don't need to worry about impressing anyone with a 'faster' weight loss because the weight you have lost is already AMAZING! And besides that - Look at you- at who you are - YOU ARE AMAZING! You are an encouragement for all of us here and such a wonderful support. That - YOU - are what is impressive with or without the weightloss. I hope she loves you and sees how important you are as a person. I know we are all so blessed to have you in this group!

Okay, here's a picture of the new tattoo. It was taken right after he finished it, so it's not healed up yet, but you can still see everything pretty well. It's the Yin and Yang symbol to represent balance and harmony, it's orange and blue because blue is my favorite color and orange is my BF's favorite color. The initials in it, MAMDTT, are the first initials of my 6 kids, and the heart that is red with clock hands in it is the Tin Man's heart. My dad, who died 13 years ago, was known as the Tin Man. He collected Wizard of Oz Memorabilia and even called his company Tin Man software, so that heart is for him. It's on the back of my left shoulder. I love it and the guy that did it really understood exactly what I wanted. I have one other tattoo, a peace sign on my ankle, but this one is quite a bit bigger! LOL

Bonnie, I KNOW you're frustrated with your losses not being faster. I TOTALLY understand that. But you're averaging about 9 months a pound. That's right at the rate that I lose. I average 8-10 pounds a month. It doesn't seem like much, but it starts to add up, and before you know it, a year has passed and you're down 100 pounds.

Missy, I can't wait to start adding in some new foods! I've got to pull out my 72 book, because I do want to add foods back in according to the OWL ladder, but I will be very happy to have things like mushrooms and onions back! Who would have ever thought that I'd be craving mushrooms and onions!
