That was an interesting read. Thanks for taking the time to pass on your observations. It was very informative and kind of put my mind at ease.

Trinigirl and Shelly

Nice drops ladies. I'm sure by the end of day there will be lots of numbers on the negative side. Can't wait to see!! My old mechanical scale shows pretty boring losses and I'm just kind of guessing about that 1/2 lb today. The last couple of weeks I usually get a lb off mid week but not this time?
Trinigirl... can you come decorate my house? No lites outside this year. We got snow too early and just got a major dump last night. Looks like about 8-10 inches. Ugh. I know what I'm doing when I get home from work today!!
Shelly.... keep up the good work ! (did I tell you how much I love your picture??)
Well, Biggest Loser Challenge at work ends this Friday (10 wks). Don't think I'm gonna be the winner of $300. as I started 2 wks before this even began but I'm almost 30 lbs lighter so that's a win for me!!

Gone for a few hours, and I'm spending days catching up! Bulldogmom - does that mean I have to lose a leg? If I just cut it off, does that count?

Loved the discussion on Lc-haters! Isn't it funny how so many people have so much knowledge without reading anything! My physio said its obviously high in transfat - huh? Transfat is added to processed foods like cakes! Don't recall that on Atkins.

But also a bit of history, Atkins did not come up with the diet per se - Duke Medical were circulating pretty much the same thing in the 50s for diabetes patients. The same sort of instructions were out in the 1800s, again, for treating diabetes. Its nothing new - Atkins just brought it mainstream and was crucified in the press and by the AMA for doing so. But hey, smear campaigns appeared against those tackling the tobacco industries, the doctors who raised the alarm against Phen-Phen etc, or even Dr Mercola and his natural treatment articles.

I also remember reading the kidney damage issue - this comes from people who eat too much protein and insufficient fat, it causes difficulties for the kidneys to break the proteins down. But Atkins was never a high protein diet so it doesn't even apply.

Yes, we all love our friends and their opinions! My favourite is my friend who is living off massive bowls of pasta and rice with steamed veg every day, followed by a donut or choc bar and later, some crisps or popcorn. Don't ask me why he's gaining weight...

By the sounds of it, we all seem to want to share why this is good for us - but its difficult to shutup when someone has closed the door. Well, maybe when they are sick enough to listen, we can be there to help.

Had a good couple days so far:

1 Dec - 78.2kg
2 Dec - 77.7kg
3 Dec - 77.4kg

Not expecting a loss tomorrow as hitting the weights tonight - chest and back. Am three weeks into my HIIT cardio training and definitely improving. Its great to be done my cardio in 20min and burn 350cals and only have to face it three times a week. Still on a five day split for weights and trying to add in yoga or pilates. Whilst the scale hasn't changed too much since starting, dress size is down to a US10 so two more sizes to go :-)

Happy Wednesday everyone

Tiggy, I've been browsing the different HIIT exercises and want to try it eventually. Are you following a specific program or are you just doing you're own thing? BTW, I say you can keep your leg unless it has a lot of carbs. LOL

Trini, thanks for asking about the foot! Its been giving me a lot of trouble. But I went back to the dr yesterday and she did very minor surgery and hopes that this is it. Once my wound heals, I should be good to go. Fingers crossed.

Trillex, good to see you hear. Even if you aren't weighing daily, you have a wealth of information that we all benefit from. What you posted makes sense. Thankfully I haven't had any negativity from those around me. I don't think they want to argue with someone who is obsessed with bacon and proof of great cholesterol levels. LOL

mthergoos, great job with the doc. I will have to find another new doc as the one I went to Monday refused to listen to how TSH test 'only' can be inaccurate and has been for me, although he wants to keep me on my meds same strength.

Gypsy - WTG with the cookie baking. Stay strong!

Trini, Bulldog, pcalt, Froggie- Going Down!! COngrats!

Shelly, holding steady - so far so good.

Tiggy - you are doing wonderful!

Thanks Trillex for your observation. I remember the story about the child, I believe a little girl. If I remember correctly the child was supposed to be taking selenium supplements and was not given it on a regular basis. This girl died from the deficiency which caused heart failure. Children with epilepsy often have other underlying conditions that need treatment at the same time and the ketogenic diet becomes the culprit even if it is not. There have actually been a lot of studies involving the ketogenic diet and children. There was one recently where 4 children died during the study. But again it was from pre-existing complications and deficiencies. I still haven't read any study that has proven any complication from a ketogenic diet, lcing, or Atkins if it is done correctly. I think we all run into a lot of people that don't understand this woe. I've met people that HAVE tried this woe before (or say they have) and still will bring up false statements. I am not one to hold my tongue, so I politely correct them and ask if they would like me to provide the documentation/studies that show how incorrect their thoughts are. I have a 3" binder full of studies/documentation on low carb and add more daily. The keto diet at least for medical treatment has actually gone back to 500 BC.

I guess I have figured out how to maintain - 1000cals under 10netcarbs. Same weight for three days. Leftovers are finally gone, so I will start 72 Induction again.

12/01 175.4
12/02 174.8 (-.6)
12/03 174.8
12/04 174.8

Thanks everyone! I am behind on reading posts, but will attempt to get caught up tonight!

I am doing a 6 day meat and egg fast. I indulged a bit too much on Saturday night and my birthday (So basically all DAY Monday).

And I couldn't resist the scale this morning. It WAS NOT pretty. However, I am going to record it, accept it, and move on to complete my goal of 14 days cheat free (Today is day 2).

Meanwhile...

Dec 1 - 177.8
Dec 2 - 180.2
Dec 3 - DNW (Meat and Egg fast)
Dec 4 - 181.0 (Ewwwwww) (Meat and Egg Fast)

maybe I'll have an omelet for dinner with bacon! yum!

Hi Everyone! So nice to see the thread so busy! 6 pages and we're only 4 days into December.

I braved the scale today, and no loss, but no gain. I was afraid I would bounce up after my Whoosh, so I was glad to just still be the same.

Laura, how are you doing? Has anyone heard from Julie? I don't think we've heard from her this month, but I may have missed it.

Hey everyone. I can't believe it's already Dec. 4! Time is flying. So last month I said I was struggling emotionally, and I still am. DH and I are separating and I honestly feel so lost most of the time. I didn't see it coming and feel my world spinning out of control. I know that I need to take control of my health and prioritize that and my son and that's what I've been trying to do for the past month. I did get off track for T-day and I'm ready to be back in control of this part of my life. So starting tomorrow, I'll be posting daily again.

I'm so happy to see this place so busy and everyone doing so well!!

Mthrgoose - congrats on the awesome doctor's appointment. That would be so thrilling!! WTG!!

Asmallerme, it's good to see you back! I'm sorry you're going through so much right now. (((HUGS))) You're right, the best thing you can do right now is focus on taking care of yourself and your son and getting as healthy as you can. We're able to handle everything in our lives a little better when we're feeling stronger and healthier I think. We're here for you! Post, vent, and cry to us if you need to.

Afternoon all! This new job has me so busy, I'm loving it! I haven't had a chance to catch up on how everyone is doing but will try if I'm still able to read after challenge night at the gym. I'm down to a new low and finally broke out of the 190's! Weighed in this morning at 186.8

Hi Bulldogmom, I am following one I found from Mercola called PeakFitness - its 8x 30sec as hard as you can anything cardio (I've gone with the spin bike wearing cycling shoes) like sprinting, cycling, swimming, cross trainer, etc. 30sec and your heart should be at its top of the range (mine goes up to over 180). Then you basically recover for 90sec just slightly turning over, nothing strenuous. It takes just over 20min as you have a warm up and cool down added. I use an app for boxing called round timer I programmed it to buzz at 30sec then give a 90sec recovery.

I've seen others where you work for longer with shorter rest periods but found it far too difficult to improve on those ones. This one has a good balance and whilst I have pushed it so hard that I almost threw up, it is still achievable.

Someone posted on here they saw a new doc who would only check their tsh? I tried to find the post but couldn't. I was going to suggest you check out the Yahoo group on thyroid for the Good Doc List - I can probably download a copy for you if you pm me. Or the STTM site often hasa list of friendly docs.

I survived the second final day of Cookiepalooza! Didn't eat a single one!

I got 2 McDoubles for lunch! No buns, ketchup, pickles (eeeww), or onions. They were pretty tasty (and I didn't have much of a breakfast.

Now I have a bunch of cookies that I'm hoping that all of my skinny kids will eat them up quickly! Seriously though, I am not fond of the cookie recipes my sisters-in-law use and have never found it too difficult to resist them. I am super focused right now and I am not tempted by them at all.

About to go make some bacon and yummy omelets for me and DH to have for dinner. He is doing great on the plan, but he's not a daily weigh-er. His face is seriously less puffy and I think his belly (he's a total apple) looks a bit smaller. I am going to make him weigh himself in the morning!

Great losses PassionateFire and Kemp!

December goals: Arm weights every other day, crunches everyday. Weight goal is a very aggressive 159.anything!

December 1: 170.2
December 2: 168.8 Whoosh!
December 3: 168
December 4: 168.4...not sure what that little blip is about, maybe I inhaled too much powdered sugar???

asmallerme - We are all here for you. You can get through this. Concentrate on you, your son, and your health - 3 most important things. If you need to vent - venting is good.

WhooHoo passion!!!

I tried on size 12 dress from my closet that normally could not zip up anymore. Tight but it fit and I got the zipper all the way up.
