How much fat a day should we be eating?

I see % but that doesn't help me. I'm confused. Can someone please explain this to me?

I eat until I'm full and then eat again when hungry. I don't limit my fat intake and I don't have a certain amount that I feel like I need to eat in a given day. I know that fat keeps me fuller longer so eating something with fat at every meal helps me prevent snacking.

Like Julie, I don't go out of my way to add in extra fat, but I don't avoid it either. I cook my eggs in coconut oil, coat my chicken thighs in olive oil before baking, make my tuna salad or egg salad with real may, etc... I find that if I do go out of my way to add in lots of fat, it can add extra calories that I don't need.

If you find that, at some point, you're having trouble losing, that's when you might want to look into Nutritional Ketosis, which is a much higher fat way of eating, but you might not ever have to worry about that.

I would focus on cutting out the carbs, and not going out of your way to add extra fat, but not avoiding it either.

Mostly just have coconut oil in my morning blended coffee, olive oil for cooking (steaks, pork chops, eggs etc etc) and half a Avocado for dinner.

AVOCADO

Firstly, avocados are a fruit, are they not?? Induction does not allow fruit? Atkins induction foods say 3.5 carbs but when I looked it up it says a whole, medium sized avocado is 13-17 grams of carbs!!! I know they're loaded with good stuff but aren't we risking too high a carb count with these?? I see a few people are eating 1/2 but the numbers just seem very high for induction. Just asking.

The Avocado i get from Sams (Haas AvoTerra) has 4.0 carbs and 6.5g fat. The smoother skin ones have a higher carb count i think. Did not know that is was a fruit and not allowed. Might have to rethink my intake then but ohh its so good.

I've never eaten one in my life but saw others were to up their fat intake but when I researched it, I saw the high carb so I think I'll pass on them. Didn't know about different skin textures though. Hmm, interesting. What do they taste like??

I dont have a exciting palate but to me they dont really have a distinctive taste. Texture is like butter. I think what's good about Avocado is that blends in with the flavors brought from the rest of the meal. Bad description i know lol.

I really don't like avocados, I think it is the texture.

There are many other options to get fat besides avocados. HWC, is a nice one. Bacon is my favorite, pork belly, cream cheese is a fat also. But be careful eating alot of cheese.
avocados are a fruit and should not be eaten on induction. The are fine on other phases

One whole avocado (Haas) has 11.75 total carbs, but 9.2 from fiber. Net carb is 2.56 per avocado (size 136 g). The rest of the nutrition profile (for an entire avocado): protein 2.67g, fat 20.96g

I always get my nutritional information from the USDA website.

It depends on what kind of avocado you get. I think it's Haas Avocados or California Avocados. One has a smooth skin, and one is much bigger than the other. So the carb count is going to depend on what type of avocado you're eating. Personally, I love avocados, and they are full of good fat, BUT they are a fruit, so I eat them very sparingly. Probably one avocado a month at the most.

Depending on what list you're going by, it says right here online at atkins on #6, doing induction right...

In a typical day, you can have up to 4 ounces of most cheese (but not cottage cheese or ricotta), 10 black or 20 green olives, half a Haas avocado (the kind with a blackish pebbly skin), an ounce of sour cream or 2–3 tablespoons of cream, and up to 3 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice. The carbs in these foods must be counted in your 20 grams of Net Carbs.

I got out of one stall by adding 1/2 avocado per day. I now love it and will not stop. Salads, eggs, or eaten straight with a little garlic salt. Atkins says they are 1.8 net carbs per 1/2. It would be one of my highest recommendations. I've also made avocado ice cream, spicy avocado mayos, and many other things. Skinny B has posted some really good things she's made with avocado also.

Tomatoes and cucumbers are also fruit as are cashew "nuts" . Don't freak out. It's just the botanical category. Focus on the carb count per measured serving.
